In bed storage box..?

Is the drivers side in bed storage bin that is recessed in the side behind the wheel optional, is it no longer offered, or..?

can it be added if I don’t have it?

I think it disappeared around 2019, if you find one in the junkyard you can always cut the bed and add it to yours.

 

Guess that I’ll have to figure something out then.

I want to install a battery in that area, but don’t want to have to crawl under the truck to service it.

The built in utility behind the rear wheels has gone away. It was a sad attempt to provide a storage box. The boxes leaked and weren’t too useful. Placing them behind the wheel provided a perfect place for wheel/water to throw rain mud water from the road. Not too useful unless you have something that can get wet and dirty. You could buy a waterproof box and install it since I believe the space is still there. Good luck

 

the bed box was/is one of the best features of the truck! i actually use my truck to haul stuff, and it's the perfect place to stow ratchet straps and bungies!

it works perfect at least until i re-build the bedsides sometime in the next 20 years.

 

This was no longer added as standard after 2018 I believe. I added this box to my 2021, was a pretty simple mod

Although they removed the cubby from the factory, there is nothing in the way stopped you from adding this back to the bed. If you need any advice let me know if I can help out

 

I think that I will figure out which battery that I want to use and then build a stainless tray/bin to hold it and seal the bed back up.

Depending on the battery that gets chosen, I may end up creeping into the bed a bit, but an inch or two shouldn't be an issue really.

I wouldn’t use a conductive material to hold a battery. Some sort of pvc/ harden plastic and a good caulk.

 

My 2022 SR5 has the passenger side one, I find it is a good spot for the 7 to 5/4 pin extension harness I made for my trailers.

 

Um, I am sure that it will be fine, seeing as how there are millions of batteries being driven around under hoods of cars that are held by conductive materials...

Obviously I will have to ensure that the battery is properly secured, and the the composite bed is reinforced enough to handle the added weight and stresses, along with finding some adequate bracing points into a steel/aluminum surface.

I have a feeling that I will be able to figure it out.

I do appreciate the concern though.
