My list of potential engine swap ideas/dreams include but not limited to 1UZ, 1JZ, and 4AGE- Red or Blacktop... All of which would be for different builds.

    I've got a 7M that's ready for a turbo if you're interested.

Much as I'm interested in a 7M, I'm pretty broke. Usually stay broke. It took me 2 months to pay for the truck. So...

Yeah to just barely get back on road.....find junk engine....$2K+....

to do it right and have something that will last.....$4K to $5K.....

thought I could do it for under 3 and everyone said your wrong.....
    .....boy was I wrong.........

And thats just the beginning.......there will be little $200 to $400 fires pop up all over the truck......toyota is proud of their parts.....
and more and more are not produced anymore....have to have a work around.....

I remember a Tercel I had and that dang thing was like that, had little flare-ups of parts that needed to be swapped out. Every other week something else went wrong with it. I later discover that it was on its 3rd motor, 4th transmission, and 3rd clutch when I got it. Sad thing was that it was given to me in exchange for a ride up to the liquor store. But damn if that thing wasn't surprisingly quick. Zipped through traffic at about 80 every day. Only for the motor to go when my friend did the speed limit...

Of all the engines you listed, the 7M would likely be the cheapest. Last I checked 1Js were going for 2-3k? I pulled it after a recent rebuild (about 45k on it) to swap in a turbo motor and it's been sitting on the stand taking up shop space.

Going to agree with you. A 7M would be the absolute cheapest. However... I really don't know too much about them.

From the factory they're known to blow head gaskets, reworked they're torque monsters that can hold their own against JZs.

Just making sure I'm going about yanking the motor right. Do I need to unbolt anything from the flywheel area on a manual?

Nope, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate come out as a group once you've unbolted the bell housing. The input shaft will have to slide out of the throw out bearing in the crankshaft as you pull the motor forward and out.

So unbolt the bell housing from the trans and yank it all out, leaving the trans? I should that this is the first time I've pulled a motor...

Look for the Toyota factory repair manual on here, it's got step by step instructions. If I have the head height, I like pulling the engine and trans together so the trans pulls down on the back of the engine and it comes up and out. However, you've gotta have a tall ceiling for that.

Couldn't find the Toyota repair manual on here so I consulted the Haynes repair manual... Still confused. So I just broke all the bolts loose where the transmission and engine meet. At this point I need to wait on my cousin to have the time to help. Rather not risk anything especially since this is the first time I've ever pulled a motor.

When I started reading this I said Wow when I saw that mess in the motor. It's been parked since the pandemic. Wasn't that area severely flooded just before that from the hurricane that hit Myrtle Beach maybe 3 years ago?
We were going on vacation there and the hurricane just hit which forced us further south to stay. I just remember all the flooding in the Carolinas from it.

In 2020 there was a hurricane that came CLOSE to where I live and where the truck was parked. We got A LOT of wind and some rain but no flooding.
