Its no more ropes than a tree stand. And if it is, I highly encourage you change your ways lol.
Saddle setup: linemans belt for climbing, tether for hanging
Tree stand: tether (safety harness) for sitting, linemans belt for emergency

I get it though, all the ropes look intimidating, and it looks like you need to know every knot known to man, but there's really only about 2-3 knots you need to know, and you 'technically' only have to learn them once; or buy all your stuff off the shelf and don't learn any of them lol. Of course you can go down the rabbit hole of SRT/DRT/rappelling/etc and add or subtract all the ropes you want; at the end of the day, I say do what works best for you and makes you happy!

The Left one is my Tikka T3x, the middle is my dad's ( i think it is a 7600 chambered in 270 ) but I am not 100% sure and the one on the Right is our friends semi in 30-06 but i think it is a browning. My dad is funny, it is a monte carlo stock for a right hander and he is a lefty. I asked why he got that one and it was because it was "On Sale" when he got it haha. It never has fit him right.

I had to switch from my 300 savage to the tikka when Ca. went to non-lead and getting a load worked up for the 300 that would consistently expand with non-lead is at the higher end of the 300 pressures and accuracy so I just decided to put the work into the tikka and not shoot out the barrel of the savage

I'm not a saddle hunter (mainly because I'm old and I dont like to change what works for me)......but your response about saddle hunting was great!! We all have our ways, our reasons for being out there, our definition of 'trophy'.....none of that matters when you're doing what you love to do.
I havent kept a deer to eat (for myself) in over 20 years, but the people I give them to are extremely happy to get them, and I'm just as happy giving them.

I just turned 54 and started saddle hunting last year around mid season. I wish I had known about it 40 years ago. Up to this year I've regularly pre-hung at least 8 lock on stands and sticks and then used a portable lock on and sticks for mobile hunts. That mobile lock on, sticks and gear weighed 37lbs. The saddle rig, sticks and gear is 18lbs total now. I get the same height, 18-20' using three short sticks and three rope aiders.

Didn't hang a single stand this year, all saddle so far with better than a dozen hunts. I'll say this, I don't have sore back, butt or knees after a 6 hour hunt anymore. All day hunts can still be tough but even those don't have me hunched over dragging myself back to the truck. I was also intimidated a bit about using a saddle. I've got 33 years with an electric utility and 20+ of those was climbing and using a linemans belt on steel. I've found saddle hunting to be like riding a bike, old habit. My shooting radius in the saddle is more like 300 degrees or so with a bow but I'm still learning the tricks. It's 360 degrees for sure with a firearm. One of the best things I've found is you can climb many many more trees than previously with other stands. It's THE tree at THE spot I can climb now more often than the only straight tree I could could find CLOSE to THE spot with a lock on or climber. Another benefit is being able to ease around the tree and keep it between you and a deer approaching. Not a purest either, will exchange the bow for a side lock muzzleloader or a lever action 30-30 in a skinny minute and skin up a tree in that saddle. It's all good.

I did my first saddle hunt and stood on my top stick steps. Never again. The platform is the way to go.

Really good points. And if I ever buy my own chunk of private land that I want to hang permanent setups, those setups will be a handful of 6" grade 8 bolts stuck in trees for steps and reserve my sticks for run and gun type setups.

I thought about getting the platform when i was still using the climbing sticks, but now that I use a swing to climb i just use that for my feet instead. This video explains what I'm talking about when I mention a swing seat:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcAUPX5FbVg

only instead of a stick to put my feet on I use this (I swapped the original ropes w/climbing ropes)

I sat my new gun blind last evening. Not to hunt but to see what brush I need to trim.

    20221015_173017.jpg

    This is a east view.
The tree in the center needs to come out. In the morning the deer come from this direction. There is a corn field in the back ground.

    20221015_172917.jpg

This view faces south along my west property line. The area to the west is 120 acres of woods and a deer beding area. Need to do some brush clearing.
