Has anyone been fortunate enough to hear/compare different sizes of subwoofers in the Tacoma or similar Trucks?

I have had other cars with 10's, 12's, and even 15's and they were all different with Bass. I have also been able to tell differences in how they are placed in the vehicle. Most seemed to sound better when they were in a trunk or when faced backwards. I am not sure why.

This is actually the first truck that I am attempting to install a system in. Something tells me to go with the 10in because of my past experiences, which isn't a large amount of experience.

Sorry if the posts are annoying, I am picky when I buy electronics and have to weigh pros and cons. I wish that I could just buy something and just roll with it.

space is really the limiting concern in these trucks. imo, i wouldn't recommend larger than a 10 simply because i don't feel that the box size required for a 12 or 15 can be large enough unless one starts taking out seats, or cutting pass-through's into the bed.

I chose a shallow mount 10" and fibreglassed a box into the right hand pocket behind the seat. I wanted an invisible system. It works for me. The other option is some of the spacesaver subs out on the market. A little bit more money but less work building boxes...

Looks like you already got a couple of good woofers in there already.

What about installing a cap? I seen a lot truck with woofers in the bed firing though the back window.

This is what my friend installed in the back of his truck.

    JackHammer22-fullside_1024x1024.webp.jpg

It sounded great. The encloser didn't exceed the size of the bed but he couldn't haul large stuff.

If you don't want to go to crazy. Look at stealth boxes design for Tacoma.

I had an 8” sub behind the driver rear seat, didn’t like that so I got a 10” in a bigger box behind the passenger rear seat. Sounds way better and cleaner. Feeding it around 600w RMS.

A shallow 10 behind the rear seats seems to be the best compromise for these trucks.

A long long time ago I had a truck that couldn't fit a single 10, but it could fit four JL 8's. It was ...loud, but not particularly deep. Or balanced. A college kids system for sure.

This time around, I did something equally looney. I like my interior storage and wasn't in a mood to sacrifice any of it, so I put a 10" hideaway under the driver's. It's balanced for me, but not any of my passengers. Which I guess is a good thing. I get the thump fired directly up my ass, everyone else thinks it's a hohum factory system. :notsure:

On the plus side, after a rough day at work I can sit in traffic, fire up a Gorillaz album and get a free back massage.

I played around with sealed and ported 8s, 10s and 12s in various spots.

Finally settled on a sealed 10 behind the rear seat. Gives the best overall sound for every type of music I've thrown at it.

    The final setup...

I also pulled the plastic from that section of the rear seat and recovered it in fabric to limit rattles and still allow the most sound and clearance.

Did you paint the metal behind the rear plastic panel and add the carpet on the back wall above the box?

I would like to build my own box for both back seats, put the 10 inside of the box at an angle, seal it up inside, and have it echo inside the box.

Similar to how the plexi-glass window boxes are.

I just remember that any time I have ever put a sub facing me, the bass was not as good. A lot of home theater systems will do things like point the sub at the floor to make it sound better.

I am surprised to not see anyone doing "rear facing" boxes where it reflects off the pack panel.

I wonder if anyone has tried it one of those ways? Speaker sealed inside or Rear facing?

My old toyota pickup I ran several subs in. one 15, three 15s, four 8s, two 8s, single 10, dual 10. By far the best was the dual 10, they were crisp and clear and provided the bass needed.

yep. Like normal. Did have to put kilmat behind insulation on rear wall the bass rattled the wall so bad but that solved the issue. Rear panel can be pulled in a few minutes or put back

Yes, the rear wall has Dynamat and carpet to finish it off.

There's just not enough room for a 3rd/4th order bandpass box back there unless you're willing to ditch the entire seat.

I wanted everything to look stock so that wasn't an option .

taco tunes tends to be the go-to

supercrew sound, sound off audio, the sub box shop, as well as ebay also all carry different variations of the same idea.

and that's just pre-built boxes only. crutchfield has at least the jl audio option for a pre-loaded enclosure.

that's why i went passive radiator. bigger boom than a single 10, and no space for a proper port. winisd says it should extend down below 40hz. but don't ask how it sounds. project stalled at getting wire for the amps.

has anyone heard these in the wedge box, or heard them possibly facing backwards? I see a 10in, 12in, and a 13.5in.

I don't think they make one that will fit behind the back seat.. atleast they didn't when I was searching for options.
