Anyone here good with repairing ratchets (hand tool)?

I bought a KTC BRSW3L and used it for the first time yesterday. It completely seized when the first bit of torque was applied. So I loosened up the screw to see if that would help disengage the pawl. No go.

So I removed the screw and direction/backing plate to look at the mechanism. It looks pretty simple, so I put it back together. Still nothing. If I find that sweet spot of tightening/loosening the screw the pawl just skips across the teeth on the head.

I followed these instructions (I believe this is a Proto roto head but the parts are the same)

    KTC roto head assembly.jpg

I'm at a loss. Wondering if there's anyone who can help get this thing back in order.

I just bought 25 some odd diamond core bits for making stone earrings/plugs. Need to make myself a bit holder like this.

Next time, I'd highly recommend Monoprice. They have a great selection and good prices on all the audio/video gear and accessories needed for home A/V projects. I get all my TV mounts, cables...etc from them now and we get most of our phone cases from them now too.

You unlocked a core memory

I've ordered from them as well as Parts Express for misc. items in speaker building and in-wall stuff.

Yeah I should've gone that route for sure, but I'll keep them in mind for future stuff thanks!

My last project has me itching for a drill press. Drilling metal I got by for a long time, hard for stuff to walk once you start. Last project had me drilling plastic and got some oblong shit that pisses me off. Opinions on this comparison?

That's, very interesting considering that I had thought the only difference was the table and that's it.

I'd opt for the T if I was drilling wood often, and I mean a lot. Or is it PVC? You'll benefit from the higher speeds.

But the non-T has handled any and all metal I've thrown at it which so far has been 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8". Drill bit comes more into play here.

Larger chuck and larger motor would deal with much larger holes in thicker stuff which I'll never run into.

Hell, look at everything Evan gets done on a smaller HF drill press!

Given those 2, T probably not needed.
But....that table drill press only has a 2in stroke. That's the down side that you'll realize later, good for straight drilling holes. But odd pieces (like drilling out a knuckle or something) won't be able to do.

I picked up a 1968 floor drill press, $50, 3pulley/belt design so multiple 18 I think speed settings. Has an 8in stroke so much better and work well with my 3axis vise mounted.

So if you need space, table top is probably good for holes, but creating/modifying items, search FB marketplace for a floor model.

Edit looks more like $125-250 prices lately.

Nah almost never plastic, just this one scenario. I do like the idea of a 1/2" chuck though.

My lack of shop space is the biggest deterrent on a floor model.

Lack of shop space was also a reason why I didn't go with a floor standing setup; lots to be had for a Benjamin or two.

    The 4214 I have has a 3 1/8" stroke which exceeds the 2 1/2" I needed.

That and you can always swing out the drill if you need to drill into something that won't fit on the platform; just need to sit whatever you want onto something to bring it up to the press.

So I don’t have a garage, but have a workbench in a nook of our finished basement. With my job’s HQ moving further away I’ve found myself working at home a bit more and wanted a 2nd screen without sacrificing surface space. Snagged a monitor mount from the old HQ so I can swing it out of the way when not being used.

You inspired me to get a garage tv.

32" 1080p smart tv at wally world on clearance for $148, getting the $15 hf mount tomorrow. Wanted 1080 over 720 because I also placed some orders to upgrade my daily desktop computer and take the old components along with some other random parts I have laying around to make myself a garage PC and I can't stand 720 desktop resolutions.

    Good stuff!

1080 TV in the garage as well just because I *might* put a PC in there....once they get built that is.

Pretty happy with the tv. Perfect size to slip in between the cart lid and the bottom of my speakers. The mount attaches to the wall right where the crease is, so it’ll swing from where it is in the photo to almost directly above the bench easily
