Saw this thing today

I’ve been driving by this thing for a few weeks now and finally stopped in to check it out. It’s a 1993 Hi Ace 4x4 with a 2.4L diesel it and only has 22257 km on it. He’s getting 24 miles to the gallon around town! Apparently it’s an old Japanese fire truck. The owner did a complete restoration of it and turned it into a pretty cool overlanding vehicle. Everything is custom built from the bumpers to the battery boxes. The only thing he has left to do was some interior work, mainly the headliner.

He wants to sell it so he can start on another project. He’s taken it camping a few times but he’s an older guy who wants a few more creature comforts (a/c)…here it is with the RTT on it.

 

I love those dual cabs. Pretty high on my want list. Do you know if he modified the existing bed or made a new one?

 

Is there a sale listing for it somewhere?

 

He modified it. In one of the pics you can see he put a slider in the bed for kitchen stuff or whatever.

 

If he listed that thing on Carsandbids.com he'd get a lot of money for it.

 

That's awesome.

But Americans can't even drive manuals anymore, let alone RH drive.

Very creative project, though! Kudos for that vision.

I love those things. I wanted to get one as my camping / utility vehicle before I got my Tacoma. Now with Tacoma payments it'll be a few years til I can start thinking about that again.
I like that he repainted it. Looks great as non fire-engine red.

 

I think he’s got it on some Facebook thing. It sounds like he’s got quite a bit of $ in it. He said his body guy has almost 400 hours in it. Lots of custom fabrication. Wish I could afford it! He said he wouldn’t let it go for less than $50k with such low miles on the original engine I imagine there’s someone out there that wants it. He also said he kept it this height so he can park in his garage every night. It looked very clean. And it’s a stick for you 3 pedal lovers!

If only my GX was paid off already. you wouldn’t happen to have any contact info for him would you? Maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll still have it in a few months. Haha.

 

That's probably a good price. IIRC they sell for about $20k from a few different importers.
They definitely need some TLC when they come in. Looks like he's put quite a bit of work into his.

Bad ass, I'd be happy if it was outfitted with a simple tray. Wouldn't rip the pumper body off just to fit the tray.
