I’m a bit confused by this statement. If anything, Toyo/Nitto are exceeding expectations, and Falken not so much at all currently. I am at a tire shop In metropolitan New Jersey that deals with all brands, and sport compact/European etc and rarely does Toyo, Nitto disappoint or have any warranty that needs to be fulfilled. We are also a top 5 Yokohama dealer for the country.

Falken has had National issues lately so that’s why I’m curious as to why you are saying the opposite?

Ivan, any noticeable hit in mileage with the Boss?

I’m trying to stay as close to stock weight with wheel and tire set up. My wheels I’ve purchased are in the 22# range vice the 25# for stock. The current stock tire Goodyear Territory’s are slated at 37#.
I know im not going to beat that.
The lightest 285/70/17 I’ve found are the Toyo ATIII’s at 46# for a total of 68# vice the stock 62#. There is one lighter tire and that the Bridgestone Dueler at 44#.

Yes,minor. The Baja Boss are 48# but the outside block is very agressive.Weight and rolling resistance affect mpg.

I work at a large dealer be we get reports of tire quality concerns from the distributors. May be it’s all hogwash, but it’s that we are getting. Op was asking about perceptions.

I’m in prairie region Canada if that makes any difference.

My dealer still stands strong with toyo. I’ve lost favour with them over a winter set I had. Yokohama is my golden standard now.

Yeh those supplier reports are suggestive at best. Often hogwash, or the distributors way of telling you they don’t have the tire you’re wanting or are sitting on a lot of the other. Not one dealer in the USA has bad marks for Toyo, Nitto, Yoko, Vredstein and Michelin in the past few months.

How about the Chinese cooper tire rot claims? Lot's of bad reviews lately, of shipments being declined due to QC. Any weight to that?

Running the Toyo Open Country R/T Trail and like then so far. Haven’t had a chance to hit a trail to test how they would do crawling yet. But so far so good. Did good in the rain.

they have been around and not what i would consider up and coming but, hankook makes good tires at a decent price. i had a set of at's years ago and was happy with them.

kuhmo seems to be trying hard to be more relevant. i'm starting to see more sumitomo and vredestein at tires but this may be a regional thing.

Leveled with Bilstein 5100 shocks, Kumho AT52 265/75 tires, Redline hood struts, R4T tailgate lock, Matt Gecko LED strips in bed and under hood, WeatherTech hood guard, OEM bed mat, Husky floor mats, Carhart seat covers, Grille replacement with Toyota letters, Sony AX6000 replacement head unit, OTT lite/mild tune, and an occasional splash of fuel additive.
These tires are doing great in South Dakota with lots of snow and ice. I also took a trip down to Kansas City and back several weeks ago and all good. So far I would say I would buy them again. Much better than the KO2 E rated that I had as they were terrible on snow and ice.

Had the AT51 on my wife's 4Runner few years back. Was very happy with them. Affordable, quiet, grippy. Tread life better then her current WP's. May go with the AT52 in the future.

My stock tires are at 40k, will replace this fall. Looking at Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme, in 265-75-16 SL. Tire weighs 39 lbs, which is close to stock weight. Cooper and Toyo's in same size come in at 41 lbs.

This seems like a relatively new tire. Anybody have experience with it?

I believe this Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme has the potential to be a very worthy contender. It almost certainly will be significantly better than the stock Goodyear Kevlar on the TRD O/R. I unfortunately have no direct (or trusted 2nd hand) experience on the Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme to offer the TW community at this time. However, I anxiously await feedback from others on this new tire.

I loved the Haaka winter tires we had on the car and about 10 years ago tried the Nokian Mud Terrain they sold at the time. Two trips to the bush and two pungee sticks through the sidewalls. No fun when you are in a camp 250km north of Fort St James and you have to go to Prince George for a replacement. Second time I was 150km on logging roads out of Williams Lake. Back to Kal Tire and they replaced them with KO2 (pre Duratrac days) and gave me 90% treadlife on the Nokians towards the Goodrichs. Good on Kal Tire for looking after me, but the experience turned me off Nokians. They probably have changed since then, but I have a long memory.

Now I run Duratracs because they work for where I drive. If I was mainly on pavement, I'd have Michelins.

I have never been a fan of cut rate tires. Tires are one area where you shouldn't go cheap. However, I get it that people are working within a budget and sometimes it makes sense. The problem with the cheap brands is that they don't always have the greatest R&D and their quality control isn't the greatest. There has been a big influx of Asian companies in the market. That is where it gets scary. Anything not made by Yokohama, Toyo or Sumitomo should be considered very carefully. I was at a show recently and someone was talking up their "Radar" tires. It took and internet search to sort that one out.

I just ordered Yokohama Geolandar AT G015s. Saving 7lb (I think) per tire vs the Falkens I had. Saved a little money per tire, and Yokohamas had a better mileage rating.... only time will tell!
