Installing Seat Covers

I just got the tacoma seat covers. It looked pretty easy according to the instructions to put on, but it wasn't. It was a pain in the ass to install, but worth it in the end. If anyone else is planning on getting them here are some helpful tips that I could have used.



Passenger Seat - You are going to need to take your seat off. Unhook the stretchy straps holding the flap on the back of the seat. There are 2 tubes in the seat cover. The passenger seat has the 2 child seat anchors which you have to push the tubes past. I recommend taking one of the tubes out. Push the tube that remains in the seat cover through the gap where the seat and the back meet. Push the sleeve where the tube that you removed through the gap as far as you can. Flip the seat to where the back side is facing up. Take the tube that you removed and start sliding it back into the sleeve. To get it all the way back in I used a mallet and used impact force to get it to slide in all the way. Rehook your straps to the bottom of the seat and bolt chair back in place. The rest is on the directions or self explanatory.

Driver Seat - You are going to need to take the seat off on order to unhook the straps holdong the flap on the back of the seat in place. Once you remove the straps bolt the seat back down. This seat does not have the child seat anchors so you can push the tubed sleeve through without removing the tube. You will not be able to get it all the way through by hand, at least I couldn't. I took the socket and the extender that I used to get the bolts off to remove the seat and used it to push the tube the rest of the way with quick blows from the mallet. Make sure the socket and extender are under the seat cover so as not to damage your material. Unbolt the seat and rehook your straps. Bolt your seat back in place and follow the rest of the directions.

For both seats follow the directions to the point of sliding the tubes in place. Then use these tips. If I had them it would have saved me a ton of time and some sore fingers. I hope this helps those of you getting these seat covers in the future.

I had to remove my seats to install my RUFF TUFF custom seat covers as well. I did remind myself of a monkey & a football! They fit great though!

 

Thanks for info. I do plan on purchasing some of these this holiday season. I guess the key is, don't mess around, just remove the seats.

 

I removed the seats because I needed to get under the seat to unhook the straps and so I could push and pull at the same time with the seat flipped. The straps are just a stretchy line that holds the flap on the bottom of the seat tight against the seat. I probably could have done the driver's side with out taking the seat off, but I wanted to make sure visually that the tube was all the way through. I'm pretty impressed that you were able to just push them through. I tried for the longest time and couldn't get the fit on the seat that I wanted until I flipped the seat and could see the tube out the other side.

I did not know that the center was that rubbery material. I kind of like it though. Makes for easier cleanup.

 

Ahhh, I understand now. That probably makes it easier, but I sure did not want to remove the seats.

I was a little bummed when I found out they were not all "wetsuit like material" as described. I'm keeping them, but they are super HOT in the summer.

Get Wet okoles!!! They cover the whole seat and you can't tell they are covers.. (far better than the Toyota in my opinion)
They have slits for the airbags to still function!
Not hard to install either (Just pop out the seats to make it easier!)

W/O's are great seat covers and had them on my Tundra, and on my wish list now.
I would say that if you get them, make sure to get the soap for them, I know on mine I had a few spots, (dirt, oil) etc. When I contacted W/O they said use the soap and conditioner (believe it's called that). Pulled them off and washed following instruction. Came out good as new, all spots gone.
High price.....yes, but worth the money.

Are the Wet Okoles hot in the summer? Where did you get them?

 

No... I got them Direct from Wet Okole (in Cali)
They are Expensive though.. I think I paid 450ish for everything shipped (with a 20% discount group buy through TN)

 

These are Covers but just the best covers you can buy!!

They cover everything and look like factory Neoprene Seats!!

My question about the W/O, do they still allow the rear 60/40 bench seat to maneuver like stock? IOW, would I still be able to flip up only the "40" part of the seat independantly of the rest of the seat parts? ANd to put it yet another way.....is the rear seat cover all one piece or is it seperate pieces to allow for the seats Pieces to maneuver independant of one another?

 

Yes they work on the 60 40... Still work as stock.. A little stiffer to fold due to the extra fabric may not fold as flat but yes it works just fine!

If you are truly interested i can take out my car seat and take some pictures? let me know

 

I don't want you to take out your seat....just "flip it up".....the 40/short side.

 

Interesting. Mine went on without removing the seats. Took all of maybe 20 minutes. One thing I did learn on the passenger side - if you fold the part holding the 2 tube halfs so the are side by side and then jam it into the seat with the outsides of the tubes in first, you can then pop the tubes into place. Much easier than trying to push them in lengthwise at the same time.

Gotta admit, once on, they do fit the seat perfectly and look great. I was hesitant when I saw the vinyl-like ribbed surface, but they turned out to be very comfortable all Summer long.
