The latest acquisition in my not very successful quest for organization, Makita battery holders.

The battery slides and locks just like in the tool so they can be mounted in any position.

Now just where to mount them...

Okay... I'm calling it a '30, even though I'm not all that good on regular cars & trucks. @RustyGreen - what say you?

Thanks Rusty. The sad part is this is in a substation yard, so you have to have a key to access it. Oh well, at least you guys got to see it!

@My Name is Rahl you’ll understand this since you and your wife home school your kids. Well, like our kids, my wife does it :D

My wife took our 7 year old daughter in for her wellness visit today and the doctor told her we should put them in school because they are so far ahead we’ll run out of stuff to teach them

My wife may have went off on her and told her that won’t be happening :frusty:

My wife is very hard on them with their schooling, that’s why they are so smart.

That's super dumb. I don't understand where doctors get off on saying those sorts of things.

When our oldest was younger, I did actually have a doctor's assistant ask if we had firearms in the house. Not, if we owned them, just if they were there.

There’s always new stuff to learn. Learned that the hard way in the Marines… started with my SBF (sand bag filler) got up to my Phd…. But it all seriousness. Wish my parents had been that tough on me with school. It was a rough curve when I started college.

Me too. I didn't know whether I wanted to be a brain surgeon or a fry cook.

    1929 or 30.

Lurking under the hood is the brand new Chev "Stovebolt" overhead valve six cylinder engine with 194 cubic inches (3.3L) and making 50hp with a 5 to 1 compression ratio.
This engine was used in improved versions all the way until 1962 and was installed in the very first 1953 Corvettes, Chev didn't have a V8 until 1955.

The term "Stovebolt" referred to the use of ¼”x 20 slotted bolts on various engine components. They were similar to bolts used on cast iron wood burning stoves which were popular at the time.

These had 3 main bearings that were pressure lubricated, the connecting rod bearings were splash lubricated similar to a lawnmower engine.

These engines had what are called "babbitt" bearings, to rebuild them a rough finish bearing was installed and then the engine block with bearings installed had to be line bored by a machine shop to the correct clearance.

Chev didn't switch to a modern precision insert style bearing until 1948.

Babbitt bearings, notice how thick and rough they are.

    af-663.jpg

Precision insert bearings, the saddle shaped set is called the thrust bearing, it is designed to take loads front to rear also, it is what stops the crankshaft from walking back and forth in the block.

More important is that you shut the cabinet and walk away knowing you did a good job.

Maybe 20 years in the future some new guy will see it and say "This is real nice work" and be inspired to do a better job himself.

Rusty, you’re a damned treasure, and a great asset to this thread, and the world in general. I’m not just saying that cause you like my work, you are a genuine wheelhouse of knowledge and we all benefit from it.

Also stop sleeping in that chair there’s a thing called a bed for a reason!
