While taste is always in the opinion of the holder, I myself would certainly not have put Piney in the forefront of the description of this particular rye. But now that you mention it, I would probably include it in the overall description like most ryes. I also wouldn’t consider it as sweet as other single barrels I’ve had either.

Interesting, I typically get more of a peppery/spicey deal when comparing rye whiskey with straight whiskey, basically more of a bite, don’t recall noting a piney flavor. But yeah everyone’s taste buds are different.

Definitely agree on the peppery spice note

Oh it's definitely a gimmick! But the whiskey tastes good.

This one's been earned. I took the week off to tend to work around the house and restoring my poor truck's exterior in preparation to pick up a fresh camper tent in a few weeks. Truck cleaned up great and I can now take a breather with the most heavily peated whisky ever bottled. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Finding this in an NC ABC is a huge deal. The people there said they’d never had it in before. Ever.

Trying to finish off the Compass Box tonight. Had too much wine last night, so... we'll see.

Only 27,000 bottles….and you got a low proof! Goes as high as 148, Jesus. JD was considering bottling some as high as almost 160, but the bottler thought the corks would pop…

Very interesting reading up on this one.

Ive heard Spec’s is worth checking out depending on the time. Timing probably applies to most places though.
