House of the Dragon

They made a few big changes from the book, but most of them have been positive because the source material wasn’t that great.

The scene when Lord Corlys’s brother brings up the legitimacy issue of the they sons was initially done by two cousins. Alicent offered to marry her kids to Rhaenyra’s, Daemon didn’t kill his first wife, he never left Driftmark, they left out Mushroom, Rhaenyra didn’t confront Daemon at Dragonstone…

 

I highly doubt this will have a long run like GoT did, there just isn't as much source material for it and the story is more focused and centered in one time/place than GoT was.


Plus, there are so many other GoT related spinoffs in the works...I can't imagine what the production costs would be if they were financing all of them at once lol.

 

I have heard that the next season of HotD won't be here until 2024, so hopefully we'll have another spinoff coming in 2023. They might be spacing them out like that, dunno.

 

Dunk and Egg would be the logical choice, that one has probably the best storytelling of the spin offs.

An Aegon the Conqueror show would also make sense as well as Robert’s rebellion.

Or they could just make something about old Valyria, I guess.

 

The two I read about were the Jon Snow spinoff and another on The First Men, which I'm guessing will go over the origins of the white walkers and Night King? I know we got some glimpse of that in GoT but it would make for an interesting series. Haven't read the books so I'm just guessing, but those are the two I read were in the works.

And old Valyria series would be badass, all the talk about old Valyria in this show and GoT makes it seem like it would be quite the story.

 

Since there’s a huge split between the books and the TV show over the others/white walkers that could be a potential disaster. but they seem to be hinting at it with the king’s dreams in house of the dragon.

 

Yeah I'm liking the changes they've made since the book is basically just maesters telling us what happened instead of first person views like the OG GOT books

It's said to be only 4 seasons max, but I'm not really seeing 4 seasons unless they slow down, they've blown thru 20 years in less than 8 episodes haha

I wouldn't mind a year gap but they better put something in-between like the Jon Snow series or something

 

They’ve formally announced two - Snow (about Jon snow north of the wall) and 10,000 Ships (about the Rhoynish warrior-queen Nymeria. That’s who Arya named her direwolf after)

 

Pretty cool comment from Paddy Considine on playing Viserys, him and Matt Smith (Daemon) are probably the best actors in this show imo. Corlys (Steve Toussaint) too

 

Watched E8 for a second time today...I returned from my SoCal trip yesterday and now have to adjust a little bit to the east coast time.

Very good series so far...even with the time jumps and actor changes.

was hoping Rhaenys would say "dracarys" there are the end....I mean I know it would have basically ended the whole conflict and there'd be no more story to tell from there on, but it would've been badass if she had

I'm guessing she's off to go tell Rhaenyra that her throne has been usurped

 

Yeah they showed in the previews she flew straight over there and spilled the beans. Dammit one episode left.

 

There was probably a little bit of saliva/spit in that Ferocious Dragon Roar (Meleys, aka the "Red Queen").

What a way to show your power (Rhaenys) without actually using it.

 

I watched Episode 9 again last night and my wife walked in during the Larys convo with Alicent....yeah, she noticed the foot fetish scene. lol

Apparently, lots of negative comments regarding that whole scenario--Larys thought process: I'll provide info as long as foot exposure is revealed.

The more I think about the last scene with Rhaenys coming through the floor with her dragon the less sense it makes to me. Apparently that was not at all what happened in the books, so it was strictly done for the sake of the show.

She could have easily ended the entire conflict and pending civil war if she'd just had her dragon breathe fire over the entire altar right then and there. Ok, so maybe she felt that wasn't her place to kill everyone and she just wanted to make a dramatic point instead. Not to mention that would end the entire series. But she killed hundreds of innocent poor civilians in the process when she came up through the floor. That's something I'd have expected Daemon to do without care but seems out of character for Rhaenys. Whole thing just felt a little...poorly thought out. IDK

 

Ahh. Literary explication.

The truth is that which is argued best.

She reserves judgement until a safe space is achieved, more data can be gathered, combined with time time to process an advantageous position. “Haste makes waste,” as they say.

A statement was made, and the dead peasants are just that.

 

Its a few less taxpayers to the crown I guess lol. But yeah in a world where you're ruled by inherited royalty I can't imagine there's much if any value placed on the lives of ordinary nameless folk.

I do have one last bone to pick with it...how on earth did she get down there and put her armor on in those few minutes. I thought that stuff took an extra set of hands and a solid chunk of time to put on. Maybe the dragon keepers helped her

 

I could be mistaken, but maybe she already had the armor on. We never saw what she was wearing under the cloak once they left the Red Keep? I'd have to go back and watch that scene
