    They both suck :crapstorm:

I don't think it will, or even should, but I wouldn't be overly surprised to see AL still in the running. Their golden years under Saban is undeniable, and they were the team to beat; they're still riding that wave for some reason, even after their prime, and its a narrative many are still feeding into. I guess thats why people tear down goal posts when they beat them :notsure: They're good sure, but they're only 'squeak by nearly every team played' good at this point. Gotta give it to TN though; they're looking really good this year.

If this happens, UT and Bama make the playoffs with Clemson and Michigan/OSU.

Im going to throw out these two teams as potential dark horses for the sake of disscussion because we all know these teams have never been close enough to sniff the playoffs,.........but what if TCU runs the table and UCLA does the same, do either one of these teams get in? (to be honest I haven't seen either team play and only know that they are both undefeated at this moment)

I was at the Alabama v Tennessee game on 10/15/22. That was the most electric atmosphere I’d ever seen. We’ve been going to Tennessee games for 22 years and have never seen anything like it. Wow.
    Best game of the year.

    Ahhhhahahaha.

At this point, over a decade later. Hell, in the time it takes to get a bachelor's, it will be 20 years.

Alabama loses one game (by a field goal....) and all of a sudden, the dominance is over. Sounds like every season for the last 10.

Then they win the natty and everyone wants to blow their brains out.

Alabama is just letting the other 130 teams have some fun this year. UT should be thankful. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I love seeing the confidence though, its about time the EAST started to actually have a heartbeat.

This year's team takes 0 credit for AL's last 10 seasons/Natty's. That's kinda the point, and you're making it. Someone mentions AL barely squeaking by this year, and the default is to point back 10 years at 10 other NFL worthy AL teams. I'm not going to deny that AL has one of the best college football programs in the world. That doesn't mean that this year's team is one of the best in the world. Those two things can exist at the same time, and previous year's have proven it. I'm not referring to one loss to TN, I'm referring to my original comment, AL is only "squeak by nearly every team they play" good.

Look at your biggest rival, Auburn. They win games (used to at least lol) all the time, barely squeaking by, even snagging some Natty's along the way. We both know that doesn't make them the best team that year, and even fans can admit that. The point is, AL gets that special treatment for having such a successful program, even when the team isn't the best that year. Its as if program history plus a loss or two is worth more than an undefeated team with no program history. Simply put, program history = more money. More money = special treatment.

So, you're pointing out a centuries old issue?

    Thanks.

My point is that every.single.year that Alabama loses early and doesn't go undefeated, CFB fans collectively banish Alabama to a group of 5 quality team. HAHAHA.

So, Alabama is required to play the hardest schedule, without any losses, or even wins by small margins, or else they absolutely "suck" and are "over-rated" based on their previous success. I'm fine with that, as long as everyone can objectively admit how absolutely shitty that makes every.other.team in all of college football. Also,

You said it. Alabama has been so damn dominant, that everyone holds them to a different standard. Can you point to any preferential treatment given to Alabama during the game last Saturday? I can't. If you'd like to keep it game specific for relevance, I'm happy to do that as well.

Specific to the UT win over Alabama, please detail all preferential treatment Alabama received.

Bottom line, there were a metric shit ton of missed calls that could have easily changed the outcome of the game. 3rd and longs that would have been drive extending 1st downs, had the unnecessary roughness/roughing the passer calls had been made appropriately.

These arent excuses. The game was one by 3 points. If you can successfully tell me how a 3 point win wouldnt change had Alabama scored on drives that included illegal hits, then by all means, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Tennessee finally has at least 22 players that want to play. They finally showed up. Congrats.

Now that teams in the east are providing some sort of resistance, things will change. Saban will be gone in under 5 years. So, you'll be able to watch the rest of the world participate, soon.

I also remember people pissing and moaning about how it isnt even fun to watch Alabama games because its a blowout. So, which is it? Is the jealousy or boredom?

How can the Alabama program satisfy your demands, that arent held to any other team in all of college football?

I mean, Notre Dame has done absolutely NOTHING for decades except fire head coaches. I guess their ranking is based off the quality of HC hire, since they are ranked every year.

And you can substitute Ohio State for Alabama in your statement and it's the exact same thing. Like 6 or 8 years ago when TCU was virtually in the CFP ranked No. 4.... and then at the very last instant Ohio State jumps in from like No. 6 or 7 ranking, with some kind of "total body of work" bullshit. Full disclosure... my son was attending TCU at the time.

I'm glad that we can agree that some team's rankings are on pretty BS factors.
As for all your other points, I think we're on different pages, and thats okay. I pull for AL every game they play btw. I just recognize that in years they don't quite have the future NFL talent lineup on the field in nearly every position, they're not the best team out there that year. Sure, calls get missed, but you can't blame refs for dropped punts, false starts, too many players on the field, illegal blocks, etc. At some point, you have to recognize AL beat themselves and a better team than them is out there this year. Doesn't mean they're not still good.

I really dont know any other way to rank teams from season to season than just carrying it over from the previous season.

That doesn't factor in coaching changes, players in/out, etc. But, how can Notre Dame be ranked in the top 25 every year?

So how can rankings be corrected, from season to season? I'm genuinely asking, because it seems like, if everyone can get on the same page about how teams are ranked to start the season, it will reduce the amount of questions about whether a team is legitimate or not. Right? Isnt that the point of ranking?

And if the National Champ carries the title to the next season, it seems fitting that the rankings for every other team would carry over, too.

Maybe thats just a statement of equality, and not fairness. I dunno.

Most of my family thinks I'm crazy because I'm kind of sick of Alabama winning. It really is good that the east is competing again. Now, 3rd Sat in Oct has some meaning again.

There shouldn’t be any rankings until 6 weeks into the season.

For some of the teams like Alabama, Ohio State, etc their high ranking is kind of a self-perpetuating thing. They start with a high ranking from the year before, then the first 3 or 4 games of the season they play at home, playing nobodys... like The Little Sisters of the Poor or The Lighthouse for the Blind. This cements their ranking for the remainder of the season, as they are seen as a powerhouse with their 4-0 record. If another team with any reasonable chance to beat them in one of those early season games gets on the schedule, their home stadium refs find a way to help ensure they get the W.
The way to help break this cycle is to have the conference powerhouse play the powerhouse teams from other conferences in the early season games. But that will never happen... Not good for business.

Actually, this already takes place. Alabama opened with P5 opponents and other teams do too.

Running the aggregates for which teams play "cupcakes", and when, is a drawn out process, that will only show that ALL teams schedule games against weaker opponents, at all times of the schedule.

Alabama has also lost early in a lot of seasons, not cementing their ranking, but having to win out as they "control their own destiny".

Those weaker teams also get new locker rooms, facilities, etc. So, there is more than just maintaining your record, that goes in to it.

Many programs wouldnt even exist had they not scheduled P5 opponents every season.
