In that case try this, Johnson Controls A421.

I had dozens of these at my old job and never had one fail. It can be configured for heating or cooling and is capable of switching up to 20 amps. The sensor cable can be extended a long way if needed.

One of the more unusual applications I used one for was to turn a set of light bulbs on/off in a well enclosure to protect from freezing.

Finished the shed today! We went with a red cedar stain on all of the un treated lumber:

and then today I installed our integrated perlins and Suntuf roofing. I’ve never worked with polycarbonate, but I might do it more often because this stuff was really easy to work with. The fasteners are expensive, but it went on really quick.

Final product ready for thousands of lbs of wood:

Fall (more like winter) starts tomorrow. We go from 75° today down to low 50’s and rain for the foreseeable future. Glad to be done with this thing. Unfortunately the company I ordered my fireplace insert from botched my order and didn’t send the chimney liner, so despite being happy not to have to work on this in the rain… I get to climb on a metal roof in the rain when that crap finally shows up :(. Oh well, I’m just stoked to fire up the chainsaw!

Got all three sliders and new door installed and interior trimmed out. Helped a little with the exterior, but the homeowner is going to wrap that up tomorrow. Interior trim was a challenge as each window and door were all on different planes (not much room to adjust due to tight fit in the RO's). Happy to report that not a dab of caulking was needed. Quite pleased with the results given that nothing was square, plumb, level or even.

Had to order lumber for my office so I finally started my stair build. We have a 14’ wall at our entry that was covered in cheap slats laid over wallpaper. Pulled back the first piece and I really didn’t see a way we would be able to retain the original layer behind the wallpaper. If I had to guess that wallpaper is 40 years old.

So just scrape the entire wall with a putty knife to get all the loose stuff off, seal it with Kilz Klear, and do a series of mega skim coats? Anything I should be worried about? I haven’t done a lot of drywall work.

if trims / baseboard allows , sometimes its easier to just board over it and re-mud

Hmmmm. That might not be a bad idea. There’s an outside corner, though. Would I pop off the metal edge? Or just go right over it with a new panel and put another metal edge on? I guess we could choose the thinnest drywall we can find. The original is nailed in. So we’d just put new panels over everything, screw to the center of each stud, tape, mud, prime, texture, paint, take a nap?

Just curious what is happening here. It looks like the wall bumps out from the back wall. Was this area framed out from the existing black wall? If yes, would it be easier to demo back to existing wall? Then repair? Maybe this is just an optical illusion?

Yeah just an optical illusion. The ceiling runs flush with width of our wall framing. Definitely don’t want to demo this wall, I found out our main electrical panel is behind it . That’s the big cutout next to the light switches — dude just decided to put two screws in one side of his patch and let it ride. I was able to peel it off with my hands and had an oh shit moment. Here’s a better pic of the staircase

It was the worst of times, it was the best of times. Bird's mouth on rafters... what a pain in the ass (when you've never done them before). Finally figured out what I was getting wrong and cut a few successfully. Just in time to stop and get dinner going. At least tomorrow I should have a lot of progress now that I have a template.

Wood and houses aren't my thing, I didn't use a circular saw until I was over 30 - but sometimes I (have to) build things...

I needed some 1/2 trusses for a shed addition and had no idea how to figure the angles. I discovered that a yard stick was an exact fraction of the rough cut wood I was using so I built a scale truss (that looked right) out of yard stick and then duplicated the pieces and angles full size.

Next I made a full size jig to hold all the pieces and built all my trusses identical.
Amateur for sure but I kind of impressed myself -- it has been over 15 years and the roof is still straight and square. :notsure:

I found my new compound miter saw has a position/degree for the exact bevel cut on the rafter where it attaches to the beam on an 8:12 roof. So that was a good surprise.

Did you cut any of the polycarbonate panels? If so, what did you use and any thoughts would be appreciated. I'll be using the same for my greenhouse roof.

I have a few different types of snips but not like those. May give them a try. I read a circular saw with a fine blade works well, but it's extremely loud (in addition to the noise of the saw).
