How often do you change out the cartridges? You should consider taking the old ones off before you store it if they're dirty.

My cousin refused to wear a respirator unless it was new in the package and never worn, so I indulged her...

If you were rich you could buy a brand new truck and put a 5.7 in that. ;)

I wouldn't want to tear apart a brand new truck. It would be better to experiment with a discount beater first, in case anything goes wrong...

One of the reps that came to my old job had a manual Ford Focus that he ran to a trouble free 200K, he gave it to his daughter for a college car and it served just fine until being totaled in an accident.

He replaced the Focus with a manual diesel VW Jetta, this was back before the price of diesel went through the roof. Obviously the Jetta was a much more expensive car, it was however a much nicer car also and got better mileage as well.

He said at 200K it was a cost wash between the two cars, the lower fuel consumption had made up the additional price. Ultimately he ran the Jetta to 460K, beyond regular expected maintenance the largest cost was repairs to the air conditioner.

The transmission blew up somewhere around 350K in a rather spectacular fashion leaving him only third gear, 150 miles from home but fortunately only about 25 miles from a VW garage, the original clutch was replaced at that time.

At 460K the car was sold to an automobile broker that was shipping it to Pakistan, apparently some years of Jetta were very tolerant to low quality fuel and were in high demand there.

VW Diesels always seem to last a really long time with proper maintenance. I had a gas powered Golf which was a really good car, was just about to turn 200K and got plowed into and totalled by a Crown Vic that naturally fled the scene.

He takes good care of his equipment and does all his own work.
The engine was original, the head had never been off.

Yeah, but they're so good that they won't meet US emissions standards; I 100% blame the government for dieselgate and not Volkswagen. Asians and Europeans get cooler vehicles than we do!

Dieselgate had nothing to do with the gov't.

Always follow the money for the answer Charlie.
There was a cheat built into the computer program to defeat the emission testing. In normal operation the engine gave better performance and economy - which made the customer enjoy the car - which increased sales.

When plugged into the emissions tester the cheat made the engine run cleaner for the test.

What is most interesting here is that most defects/issues with products come from the factory floor - sometimes it might be a machine out of tolerance or a vendor part not up to spec, however usually it is someone taking a shortcut in a process and it not being caught by the QC/QA checks.

What is most interesting about the whole affair is that this was a Boardroom level decision, some random programmer or engineer didn't dream this up, they were ordered to do it straight from the top.
