I really don't see a problem with cheating the emissions test...

 

Well, in the great scheme of things I don't have many years left and have no children.

A forward thinking younger person might have just a bit of consideration for the environment, clean air and water benefit everyone after all.

You think about it for a while...

 

I take care of my truck and it's never failed an emissions test, but what I don't get is why European-spec cars don't have to meet the same strict standards as US-spec cars. We all live on the same planet and breathe the same air...

When I was in my teens-20’s, I never cared about the path of destruction I left behind.

Now that I’m nearly 40, I think that the physical footprint we leave behind is best kept to a minimum.

The saying, “when you get older, you’ll understand” is a true statement.

 

But still, if protecting the environment is such a big deal, then why Pennsylvania require emissions testing while to the west in Ohio they don't...?

Why do European and Asian markets have less stringent emissions requirements for passenger vehicles? Again, we all live on the same planet and have to breathe the same air! I am incredibly OCD about keeping my truck in top mechanical condition, and I think it's obnoxious that I have to pay my mechanic to tell me what I already know, which is that there is nothing wrong with my truck...

 

Because it all comes down to money.
You don’t want to pay for the emissions test.
Nor do most want to pay to have the emissions systems fixed.
And making things cleaner cost money (emissions components)

Do I think some of it is excessive? Absolutely.
Do I think some of it is need? Absolutely.

 

What about America vs other countries? Euro-spec Benzes, Beemers, and Porsches seem to have substantially more power than similar US-spec versions...

 

I don’t know, I don’t keep up with that.
My understanding is that the US has fairly “dirty” fuel compared to European countries.
That could be wrong, I guess I’d have to research it to find out.
