    Usually you would see the water on the top of the floor if it was getting out past the curtain , if it is ungauged (not smooth) slate , the mixer valve finishing plate may not be in contact with the tile everywhere , and the gasket behind it would not make a correct seal to the tile , this can allow water to get into the wall cavity behind the mixer and this water would show up on the subfloor under the finished floor .
