My peeps! I am calling on all of you awesome individuals (many of which I have met) to help a brutha out.

I saved this pup from being put to sleep today…and I am looking to find Hickory a new home.

I went up to the shelter today to bring my girlfriend some lunch and while I was about to get back in my truck a dog howled out to me from one of the outdoor pens.
I asked my girl who it was, and she said that’s Hickory…he is scheduled to be put down today. I said WTF…that dog looks awesome.

Long story short, I couldn’t bare to see such an amazing dog be out down. So I grabbed him and took him for a hike. I wanted to see who this pup was.

Let me just say that this is one of the coolest dogs I have had out on the trail with me. Mild mannered, doesn’t pull on a leash and wasn’t barking at all. He did amazing on the ride in the truck, and was so calm I did not crate him in the back of the Tacoma.
We traversed a bunch of terrain today, thru creeks over boulders and not once did he pull on me or get ahead of me.
This dog could be a hell of a hunting dog…found tracks within minutes of us on a FSR, both deer and bear. Then we snuck up on some doves, and he was super quite and got real low.
I am willing to make a serious road trip to put this dog in the hands of an awesome owner.

Help a brutha out and help me find this guy a new family.

I have a heeler mix in a matching colorway. Hickory looks like he has a bit more beagle than our RaeRae.
(Can't take any more little buddies at this time, we have 3...)

 

Age of the dog? what's the story they gave you on why he was there?

Dog is 1.5-3yrs. Mix of Red Tick and Walker hound is my guess. He was brought to the shelter originally as he was found wandering. Lots of dogs up here get away from their owners, on the regular.
He was adopted and brought back, as it wasn’t a good fit. The guy though this dog could just be left in the house without crating, and did not exceeded the dog. He probably chewed something up in the house and was brought back. Typical, of people getting the wrong dog for the wrong purpose.

This is a outdoorsman’s dog. Someone who has land, or wants to hike or hunt.

Now I ran the dog and let him play with my pit bull and catahoula, and they did extremely well. They enjoyed every minute of it, got tired as all get out…I brought him in and he went right in the crate and laid down.
This dog doesn’t even bark…not at other dogs nor when he is put up.

The hell on this dog can’t be beat. He doesn’t pull or lead you whatsoever.

I will keep you all posted. Taking him to my best friend down in GA, who is an avid dog lover and super active person.

We shall see if he gets along with his dog. But from what I have seen, this dog is a an easy one to work in. Super submissive, and hasn’t tried to dominate any of my dogs….who are are stout in their own right.

After I let the dogs play for about an hour, I laid down on the deck. Hickory came right up to me and laid down by my side with his head in my lap. You can’t beat that, this dogs has love to give!

 

Could be Fox Hound. Wish I could take him. I’m afraid the fam’s current life style wouldn’t give him the active home he deserves.

 

Just wait for that first ambulance or fire truck drive-by. Then you find out if the dog has a voice.

I have one from my 2013. It's chrome and has a very slight "Door Ding" in it. Really can't tell that its there unless you happen to be looking at it in a certain direction.
