Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

The EL122RA/B replaced the CS046RA/B part number when they redesigned the leaf packs. I'd check with ARB directly and ask what the specific differences are between the two. Their US based tech support line is top notch.

I see you have a cap in your picture. Are you running with an AAL? ARB recommends an AAL to the pack if you are 200+ lbs load. The cap puts you very close to that.

When I installed my kit, I also did the AAL. Hasn't given me any issues and I'm well over the 200+ additional when including gear in the bed, roof rack, storage boxes on cap and cap.

I too will be replacing coils soon. When I installed the kit, I installed 881s with nitros. Because of the swap to 4wd and adding a winch to the ARB, I'll be swapping in 883 coils.

Really satisfied with the kit as a whole.

 

Did you have CV boot issues with the 881?

 

Other than the ribs on the inboard boot making contact closest to the diff, nope. Haven't had any actual road time yet though. Finishing up the swap - trans install. They actually may be ok. I've noticed more of a slight visual dip in the front since bolting up everything. Figure with adding a winch it's going to drop even more.

 

Ah. That makes sense. I am not using the AAL, but from my research, I probably should. I've got the cap and a ton of gear in the bed plus a couple mtn bikes much of the time.

I'm starting to think that Low Range Offroad gave me bad info when I originally ordered this setup 3 years ago. They recommended the 880 front spring and did not recommend the AAL. I should have used the 882 and the AAL all along. I just barely ordered the 882 and they are supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

I originally started with the 880 spring and changed to the 881 about a 18 months ago. I have noticed a little wear on the boot, but it hasn't failed yet. My plan is to keep these axles till the boots fail then upgrade to long travel CV axles.

 

sheesh. After reading this thread and having to replace my entire setup, I think I might just actually return the unused parts, sell the slightly used parts, and just buy some good (king, icon, ADS) coilovers, shocks, and Alcan springs. OME should not wear out in less than 3 years.

 

Yep, they should've started you off with the 881s. As I understand it and I could be wrong, the 882s are taller than the 881s whereas the 883s are the same height as the 881s but higher rated. You might find yourself stinkbug with the front slightly higher than the rear. Have some discussions with wheelers or even just go straight to the source, ARB US Tech Support. 1 (866) 293-9078

 

Been 4 years for me and I've had zero issues. Leaf packs have not frowned at all. Front is probably fine also if I don't add the winch. Completely satisfied with my OME choice.

I was thinking of going to 881 from 880. I've been satisfied with the 880 but have plans in the future to do a front bumper and winch. Looks like 883 would be the better choice?

In all honesty, I'm thinking of just going Kings or ADS and calling it a day but hate to have to constantly rebuild them. I like the simplicity of the OME setup.

 

Oh hell. My bad. I just dug up my DM exchange with Josh over at Wheeler's at the time I picked up the ARB bumper. Ignore the part about the mounting kit (My ARB is from a forum member and I was looking at replacing the mounting hardware).

Looks like he recommended the 882s if I want to keep my current stance. I still want to confirm that since its not just additional weight from a winch but now includes CVs, front diff, etc. @Wanderlust Bus, sorry bud - 882s are apparently the correct choice - not 883s.

I went thru this back in 2014, started with 881's and a 1/2" aluminum spacer, then went to 883's with a 1/4" spacer, then to 882's, with 1/4" spacer, then removed the spacer and stayed with the 882's.
The 882's will net the same lift as the 883's with a slightly softer ride and better compression/upstroke. 883's have thicker, but less coils, 882's thinner but more coils.

Full OME kit with 882s and Dakar with AAL in the back. On 33s a 1 inch adapters up front but pretty much stock other than that. Topper probably weights 250-300 pounds

$44 OMESB121 ARB Bush Kit OME Shackle Tacoma (OMESB121)

OMESB121 bushings for the rear frame shackle mount on an ‘03 4WD? I’m using a Safe T Cap replacement with the same inner diameter of the factory one but the bushings had to be forced in (fought the entire way in) and are now bulging around the outside rim. The greaseable pins had to be pounded in. That isn’t right is it? In the pic, that isn’t even tightened.

 

Hey so I am getting an OME Kit for my 1999 2.7L Extra cab and have decide on 882s to get the lift I’m looking for. Cruiser outfitters told me going with UCAs wouldn’t be the worst idea and I’d rather have a close to perfect alignment and less issues and spend the extra coin. The question now is which one’s? I’ve seen a lot of back and forth on SPC UCAs but understand they have the best adjustability? I was also looking at the icon deltas as the delta joints seem great. I was hoping someone here might have some insight on which UCAs to run. I need them to last as I’m a college student so if I’m spending the money it’s what I have and don’t have time to replace stuff all the time. I also spend a lot of time snow camping in my truck during ski season and was thinking the sealed deltas would be better and less maintenance but would love some opinions.

oh and how are people feeling about the diff drop these days? Depends? Going 2 inches so

 

diff drop did nothing for me on 882’s. Makes the skid plate even more of a pain to get on/off

 

I’ve had mine on and off three times now, the greasable shackle has to be tapped in with a mallet, but certainly isn’t difficult. Same with the bushing itself, it’s a very snug fit, but just tapped right in with a mallet

 

Do you have any added weight up front (armor, winch, etc)? If not, not sure you'll be happy with those 882s.

 

I’ve ran both SPC, JBA and Icon and JBA have far and away been the best.

 

Currently have a bull bar and lights so probably like 65-70 lbs. I am planning on getting an ARB front bumper when I do the lift or shortly thereafter and then I will be adding a winch so with that I think 882s should be good to go with that set up otherwise I'd totally agree with you.

Edit: will probably also eventually get a beefier skid plate than I have now.
