Today’s catch.
I was targeting Fluke, when this guy volunteered to take the bucktail. Fishers Island Sound.

 

Been a minute since I got to do some fishing, but my old man came down from VA a week or so before Hurricane Ian rolled across the state and a visit is not complete without a fishing trip. The mullet run is on, and the reds are in the surf chasing them. A lot of dinks but they're still fun and a damn good-looking fish. Any insight on the blue tail, growing up I was always told it was from them consuming a bunch of blue crabs, but recently someone said their tails turn blue when they are actively feeding.

 

Lake Erie goldfish! I somehow mysteriously caught not one, but two goldfish while jigging for walleye on the big lake. These hefty piglets are descendants of the little tank pets that get flushed and find their way into the lake. They are an invasive species. The last pic is underwater gopro footage 22 feet down under my kayak; they are stacked up near a piece of underwater structure. Check out the golden one!

That might be the first Cali Brookie I’ve ever seen

 

Went to a new lake for my lunch time fishing, this is a pond behind a target. Its littered with shopping carts and trash, but the bass are everywhere. Got 12 bass and a crappie off a 1/16oz zman chatterbait (flashback mini).

Only took a picture of this one, but damn thing still had not finished its first meal before hitting my lure. My boots are a size 12, so it was a pretty big old fish. Going to go back monday with my bigger rods, I just had my 2 ultralights with me.

 

Hit up lake LBJ today. It was a grind! I couldnt find a pattern.

Have not really caught much else with any other lure this year. But the flashback mini with a 2 inch bobby garland baby shad crappie minnow has been the trick. I mostly use the 1/16oz on my ultralight, but I also have been doing well with the 1/8oz too.

The chatterbait is my kryptonite. But I like that smaller profile. Might have to try it out.

Saw a lot of bears this week while out fishing!

 

I was working a trout stream when I heard the distinct noise of digging in my tacklebox on the bank. My intruder was a Raccoon. Bugger wouldn’t leave even as I was prodding him with my fishing pole. You win.

 

Lol we saw 6 bears in 4 days. My buddy caught this gem of a video earlier that same day.

We've been hitting the water even with indiana starting to turn cold. Hit it early and watch the fog roll off the water and use hand warmers. Love fishing this time of year, just wish we had more access to shoreline in this state (everything has houses built on them!). Next year we will be yakin our way thru the water thankfully. Still rippin lips and muscling them in. Family has property with a private lake thankfully, and the bass are getting bigger every year.

He loves outfishing me and it's always *who caught the most and who caught the biggest* lol. He can win them every time as long as he has fun.


Caught this beast on a 7ft ultra light and 6lb line pulling a rooster tail. Fun fight on light tackle, especially when he darts for the trees in the water

 

The Pompano Run is in full swing in NE FL. I'll be chasing these guys up and down the east coast of the state over the next month or two if the weather cooperates and keeps them in the area. First one-man limit of the season. Time to stock up the freezer and share with friends.
