Its more or less the same. Only issue I had while installing the suspension is that the coilover will not come out/go in without popping either BJ loose.

The 4.0 is pretty bulletproof, just change oil and plugs/filters as recommended in the manual.

Seems crazy that nobody is biting on the truck. Sucks it dents the fun commuter budget too. Who knows, maybe it'll gain value if you hold onto it a bit?
I've been very back and forth on putting my truck up for auction. My vehicle intentions have gone all kinds of wonky lately TBH. Best laid plans and all...

Looking at UCA bolts today it looked like sheet metal needed bent out of the way

It does but not to far. Just use some chanel locks. When you reinstall the bolts go from the other side. It's a lot easier.
Wen installing the coilovers detach the sway bar and lower ball joints bolts and save your self the headache.

Friends and family I know with modern VWs and Audis have been fine. So have people I know with modern BMWs and Porsches...if they're on top of maintenance. I wouldn't hesitate to buy German. Actually I did recently, but sold it for other reasons. But I'd do it again and am planning on it if I can swing it, soon.
I think a good number of people who buy modern German/European cars actually believe dealer bullshit like no oil changes for 10K+ miles..or they just flat out never take them in for appointments for anything because they just buy new ones after things go wrong...or they complain after something goes wrong and they're 3 years into ownership and haven't ever been back in for service.

I dig a VW wagon. One of my favorite wagons hands down. I'd love to own one some day. I was looking at AllTrack wagons. A TDI though has always seemed like a good daily choice.

They're so spendy for a trail mobile now though.
I hate to say it but if I were getting something newer just for trails and sand over here...wait for it...it won't be good, prepare yourself...I'd probably get a 2 door JL. :anonymous:

I really dislike the culture around them though. But I do have a shameless soft spot for the 2 doors. (not built and gross)
I would LOVE it if Toyota introduced something to take on the new Bronco, series 90 Defender and 2 door JL.

I'd be tempted to snag a BJ70 if one came up at a good price. Only problem is local service.

    It was this...
    2022-10-19_08-49-39.jpg
    And now it's like this...
    PXL_20220908_013258381~2.jpg

People just aren't into mid travel, 35s and supercharged trucks.
It's not as bad as you would think. I've owned land rovers, mini coopers, VW and AMG Mercedes. Figure $2k in parts/labor a year. Compared to a Toyota it's more but it's not extreme. I only really owned them for a year at a time so I'm looking at 7k miles of wear and your chances of major failures is lower. The AMG I had was the cheapest one in the US and it needed work but it never bit me.
Its been used hard so it probably will never be worth the price I find it's worth and that's ok. I expected at least some interest and some negotiating but nope.
