Nah I don’t blame you, it’s a little confusing without the driveshaft sitting in front of you.

I drank two beers the other evening and felt like death the entire next day.

I just snapped these pics to hopefully clear things up even more. All I’m reusing from the old shaft is the flange that bolts to the rear axle, and the splines.

That’s so much more clearance, too. I’m definitely doing this. I think I’ll leave the front half alone. I doubt it would pretzel, but may end up being the weak link with thick wall behind it.

I’m truly not worried about the front portion, not for me anyways. I would have to imagine the carrier bearing simply won’t allow it to get twisted up and damaged.

Somewhere i saw a tundra that had a slim plate rear bumper that had the rear spring mount in the bumper. Small square cut outs in the bumper that you could see the spring end. I assume it was bobbed. Wish I could find that pic

is the whole driveshaft going to be that lil'pipe OD? or is that just to step up the size to a larger tubing size for the main shaft?

Maybe not exactly as I recall, but it’s cool anyways. Bobbed. With the bumper all up in the spring mount.

The whole driveshaft will be 2” OD (pictured) versus the stock of 3.5"

Your leg there looks like how @WarFab Armor mounts their tube rears. Might grab some inspiration there too.

It's also how Mobtown (RIP) Joe made the frame mounts for his 4runner's rear bumper. It was pretty cool, he cut them out of 1/2" plate, had an integrated shackle point and half a circle to rest the round tube in.

Are you worried about balancing your new drive shaft?

I'm not, since everything fits together snugly it should be balanced enough for the speeds I'll be seeing offroad. At most I'll hit 30 mph on some of the flat fire road portions of the trail.

My current driveshaft is fairly dinged up and off balance and I can still drive on the highway with it, so I can't imagine this will be much worse.

    Hey Boss.

throwing this out there. Measure the major in the pic. And get your spline count and spline length. You just might be able to find one.

Ok gotcha I think it was the perspective I was looking at it that made it look really small
