I'm guessing you're one of those guys who doesn't pay attention to all the different taco trims as they get updated over the years? Lol

An abomination. I fully intend to find out from Toyota directly during one of my training classes Why that thing is even in there.

Unless one is actually shopping for a Tacoma, why would they care?

Heck, I drive a 4Runner and I have no idea what the new models come with. I'll be interested once the 6th gen is announced. But, until then, I have no interest.:notsure:

Precisely, guilty as charged :D! That said, I’m pleasantly surprised at the nice little details Tacomas get over the 4runners. I even just noticed the “Pro” badging on the headlights! It’s like a dollar bill with all the subtle anti-counterfeit feature built in haha (but not too in your face). And those rigids…are they real Rigids, or a “made for Toyota” foglight? (like how some name brand products are made to walmart or costco specs).

Yeah, after I got mine, I’m mostly pretty smug about the new 4runner models. I’m definitely a guy who buys cars for what they have been. Put it this way, I wish I would have bought a crown vic before ford stopped making them, and I dont even like fords :p.

Im generally pretty disinterested in “new features.” I think my 21 is right on the edge of “peak” 4runner, but cant tell which side of peak. Love the fact 21s started coming with LED headlights, and the instrument display plays a cool little movie when you start it ( I still like it!), but hate that they started coming with the radar in a stupid ugly square box on the front.

Now, they come with two additional “thousand dollar” sensors on the rear quarters…bleh, no thanks.

Basically, I’m an old guy looking for a cloud to yell at.

An enthusiast or nerd (I am both) would care.

    Lol

Yeah..... Thousand dollar parking sensors are stupid. Neither of my trucks have them, and I'm going to keep it that way.

One doesn't need to know every detail about every sub model to be an enthusiast. That's "nerd" territory. I'll bet a lot of Ford enthusiasts don't give a shit about the new EV Mustang.

The MachE or the actual EV Mustang? (And I'm not even a Ford nerd lol)

Lol. Ok nerd, I got another question…. What exactly does the ECT button do?

    447BFDD3-4D60-4E40-9050-8EFB7A788682.jpg

I remember this being on old toyotas. I thought they just held gears a bit longer before shifting, but figured it went away ever since autos started coming outwith selectable gears. However, my cousin is saying he feels a noticeable throttle response change (much more aggressive).

what is it exactly, and do all Tacos come w ect mode?

My '85 Supra had it. It shifted pretty aggressively with it engaged. If I would floor it around 25 MPH, it would chirp the tires downshifting to 1st, and chirp them again into 2nd. Pretty impressive considering it only had ~160HP.

I still kick myself for selling it. No rust, 6MG swapped, converted to manual. I just never had the money to really finish it off. It needed a bit of bodywork and paint, and had electrical gremlins.

I have it on my 2020 Off Road, but I'm not sure it's on all Tacos. I use it all the time when freeway driving. It definitely lets the truck rev higher and you get a more aggressive response. In the 35-55 mph zone the truck won't be constantly searching for the right gear. Gas mileage doesn't seem affected much, but I haven't done a scientific study on it.

ECT = Electronically Controlled Transmission = Moves the shift points up higher in RPM range so you can hold gears longer. Probably meant more for towing so it doesn't fall on it's face when it shifts, but everyone seems to use it thinking it engages race car mode. 3rd gen stuff only because the 3.5L & goofy stock AT tranny tune. Another reason why 2nd gen drivetrain is superior...no personal bias at all, of course.

    3, 2, 1.... :crapstorm:

Because of how it works holding shift points higher, you should only notice MPG drop if you drive like a dumbass pretending it's a 2JZ and the real world is a Fast & Furious drag race.
