@koditten has a cnc plasma cutter

Anyone else would just be using hand cut methods, whether it's with a plasma cutter handheld torch, angle grinder with cut off wheel, bandsaw, etc.

The slots there are looking more like drilled holes. Though if you need an actual slot, again cnc plasma table would be best.

Cnc milling could take care of slots (and cutting if needed).

 

I'm not seeing the slots, just what looks like 3 holes.

Granted, it's not a big job, but I need a better pic with some hole/slot demensions.

here is what I drew up quickly. I was only guessing the dimensions and locations of the holes.

Get me a pic with a tape measure running across and I can get much more precise.

I am interested in this project, so looking forward to deets.

 

Yeah I was going to toss it in Draftsight but refused to on the basis that the 4" side is largely an estimate due to the radius cut.

Though, depending where this part is used, tolerances might be within 1/16th of an inch, or can vary as much as 1/2 an inch.

 

Was more just giving and idea and seeing if anyone was even interested.

I'll get you actual dimensions and all that in a bit (might be a day or two). Luckily pretty much all but the slots locations are up to me and you to decide on

My table has trouble cutting holes smaller than .5". They can be a bit jagged if I don't have in a new set of tips.

Regardless, I do want to try this out just for the practice.

I'm enjoying my table very much now that I'm understanding how it thinks. LOL.

I'm in no hurry either.

Went to the yard today, and nope...no rectangular tubing

Said fuck it and bought more steel rod; I'm at just over 50' total in 1/4" steel rod



Anyway, put the bender to use

First, I just welded these to hold my dies and handle



Next up, some practice bends



As long as you're not too critical, you can easily bend short pieces to make it look like something else

The large circles were definitely a test as you need to figure out how much to feed and how far to bend with each little bit



Few more to better complete the look



Weld, measure, and cut since the intent here is for e everything to be flat. You'll notice that in the crankshaft as I notched it several times



With the exception of the seat, it's all done

Came out much larger than I expected. Measures at 38" wide and 18" tall



Easy little project, but lots of fun for using cheap rod and just bending the shit out of it

 

Hey @koditten I've been making this "Welcome To Our Porch" sign for a lot of my friends, and the wives love it. So far, I've been giving them away just to prime the pump. I've asked if they thought they would pay $25 for it, and most say yes. I have about $6.00 in 18 gauge (9 signs from 48" x 48"), plus $2-3 in paint, and estimate 25-30 units on an electrode. Roughly, $10-11/sign in materials.

Here is the part drawn to specifics that @velillen forwarded to me. I've created the Gcode, now I just need to do a test cut. I'm hoping for tomorrow evening.

This has been fun. I actually found that F360 has a "slot" function that works great!

 

I got one of my To Do sign projects done today: made me a front plate for my Dodge truck. Thinking about going with the brown since my truck is maroon colored. Still may go black. I also need to make a Pittsburgh Steelers sign for a guy.



I know, it needs some larger wheels and tires. 98 4x4, 12 valve, with ATS trans, and mildly upgraded injectors. It's a powerhouse.


Cut a few extra for friends at work who also have Dodge diesels.

 

Any recommendations for a drill press for my home garage? Building a railing with metal cable and will be drilling a ton of holes in rectangular steel to route the cables.

 

I can't remember which thread it was brought up in, but I recently saw a comparison between the Wen 4214 and 4214T models. Maybe @Kwikvette can point in the right direction?

 

I’m curious about this too. I am in the market but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. On the low end I have to say I was impressed with the Wen 4227T drill press at my kids high school. Inexpensive, but WAAAY better than I would have expected.

On the other end of the spectrum, I went to look at a powermatic and for $2500 I was unimpressed! The floor model must have been damaged in shipping - the quill feed was bent and wouldn't move smoothly and the adjustable stop was as cheap-ass as what's on the $250 drill press at Lowes.

 

It was in the garage shop thread, but it's a few pages back already. But I think I posted a lot of pics in this very thread a page or two ago when someone asked for a "review" of it. Even linked a video showing the minimal run-out it has.

The biggest difference between the two presses are the motor 3amp (4214) and 5 amp (4214T).

I'm sure the T has a table top too, but I think that's meant for wood.

I have looked online at specs as well as compared ads and reviews and it seems some people mix up the 4212 and 4214 cause most say, the 4214 and 4214T use a 3/8" chuck. But others say the 4214T uses a 1/2" chuck. That and some state the T runs faster, and others state they reach the same max speed.

So in comparing the two, the information is mostly mixed.

My needs were -

Speeds for drilling into steel (primary) and wood (almost never)

Compact setup

Price point under $300. Even better since I paid under $250.

Consistentency between drills sold (reading reviews, watching independently reviewed videos, etc)

For what I paid, and the results, the 4214 is a bargain of a drill press.

I almost missed it too, with all the multiquotes and stuff.

If it helps anyone, I was set out to buy an old Delta or Jet, floor standing model from FB MP or Craigslist.

Issue was getting it to my place on account that I don't have a truck and I have a bad back.

That's when I said fuck it, I'll try a benchtop model instead.
