2012 Tacoma access cab. I live up a long gravel road and the rock chips are getting bad on the lower portion of my truck. I had a Silverado that I used a spray bed liner on the lower portion of the truck but it only lasted a few years before I had to start touching up. I was thinking about the roll on hurculiner for the lower portions of doors, lower bed, etc. my question is how much do I need to sand the paint down? Bare metal or just scuff it up real good? Thanks. Also I wanna do roll on as it will require less taping lol. Thanks.

I would think just a good scuffing will give you enough surface for a to bite onto

Despite all of the excellent videos on YouTube bragging about how great Herculiner is it's been on my truck's steps and rear bumper for around 3 years and it's flaking off on every part it was put on. Raptor Liner is a much better product.

Have you considered running boards? I have the OEM running boards that came with my Sport. As a step they are too close to the body, and they act like a shelf and hold snow and slush on top. However, I live on a 1/2 mile gravel road and I feel that they protect the lower.
Someday I'll buy a different set, but it's not my highest priority.

@DG92071 i used raptor liner spray on my Silverado it was pretty good but wasn’t sure if it could be rolled. I’m gonna roll on whatever I buy as there won’t be much taping to do. These rock chips are driving me nuts.

have you considered a strip of paint protection film? Its usually a thick vinyl product and can self heal to some extent.
