Good evening everyone. Bad luck comes in threes: my basement flooded, I have Calcific Tendonitis in my rotator cuff, and my dog has cancer. There's only one way to go from here.

Is this the fastest moving thread on the site? Good grief, I can't keep up! :D

Planning to ride the cycle to work tomorrow, even though it'll be in the low 30's. Fortunately, I only live 1.3 miles from work...

A little of this and a little of that.
    Good evening all,

I’ve read the book and enjoyed it. I will have to see the movie.

Dammit, that’s a lot of bad news at the same time. Good thoughts to you as you deal with these issues.

Along the lines of movies and books...
One that I love both but the movie definitely had to trim things down was Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park Lost World. LOVE LOVE the movies and I've read every Micheal Crichton book many times over and love his stuff. Some of his other books were made into movies and simply sucked - Sphere, Congo, 13th Warrior/Eaters of the Dead, Timeline and Andromeda Strain. One saving grace for JP was that some of the scenes in the book that didn't make it into the movie were added to JP3 which was the 1st movie that wasn't a Spielberg film. Some say it was a dud because Spielberg and Crichton weren't involved but I like it because the director was obviously a fan of the books and wanted to make sure the whole book got to the big screen. The main scene in JP3 was the sequence with the Pterodactyls in the giant bird cage - that was in the original book. Added bonus and what probably helped keep the movies in line with the books was that Jack Horner who is a Montana based paleontoligist was consulted for both the books and the movies. He was the curator of the Museum of the Rockies here in Bozeman and pretty much all of the dinosaurs' looks and behavior are based on his research and theories. Added little MT bonus feature there

Good book and good movie but even though the movie was based on the book it had a whole different feel... A River Runs Through It. I like both but the movie focused mostly on Brad Pitt's character while the book focused on the whole family and their love of Montana...oh, and fishing.

And The Pacific which was supposed to be the Marine Band of Brothers mini-series couldn't hold a candle to BoB (still liked it but they just tried to ride that wave of success) BUT the episode showing the fight on Guadalcanal was pretty much word for word, page for page taken from A Helmet For My Pillow which was Robert Leckie's personal account of his time in the Marines.
