    I have an apr on my 4runner. its cast, not billet so this is way nicer.

    Same, got one with the NPT port for possible temp sensor. He will include a npt cap if you decide not to or just to have the option.

    I keep going back and forth on the 160 therm or not. Thoughts on going with 160 vs 180 or even a 170 (not sure there is an option for this housing)

    To simplify one opens sooner than the other. In a perfect scenario that's where the vehicles coolant will be. However with all the variables included in the majority of cases the vehicle will run hotter than the t stat setting. Once the t stat opens up it doesn't matter what its set at, the thing now controlling temps is the rad, fan, water pump, and rpm. I will probably go with the 160, definitely if I go and sleeve the block, but if I can I will still run the 170.

    160’s piss off the ecu as there are situations it doesn’t reach threshold temps “fast enough” and it trips codes/cel. It’s not something I can control.

    You’re on your own with the 160’s, I can’t help if you get CELs.

    There are other important considerations. Such as the adaptive knock control strategy literally doesn’t turn on until the upper 170’s. With the 160, you may never turn that on, very bad for your engine.

    Using my Tacoma as an example with the 170° the truck normally hangs in the mid 180's which I'm very happy with. The 4runner also hangs in the 180's with a 170°. And that's with it being 100° in tx. In cold weather I don't have issues with it being too cold they're normally in the high 170's but the 4runner is different as it has the X1 so it can be whatever and won't pop a cel. I would think for those with bumpers, skids, lights, etc I would be inclined to believe the 160 can be appropriate. Only real world testing can confirm it.

    should see if 170 would work in this new housing. Based on what I heard that seems to be the more preferred option. if no big benefit i can stay with the 180. taking feedback from all of you.
