I think there are some guided road e-bike tours that can go on dirt roads. The forest service does not allow e-bikes on the trails in Sedona. You may be able to ride down at the White Hills but thats 20 miles away. I rode there last year and there were signs everywhere saying no e-bikes allowed. Agreed there are some real easy trails "Slim Shady" that are fun for everyone and not too much of a lung buster if you go slow.

These days, 50% of the after work ride is with lights on.

Heading home from a visit with the parents in Roanoke VA. Rode some fun trails around Roanoke while I was here. Living in Florida I forgot what hills are and how much they suck going back up.

I will be going back either through Charlotte (I81-I77-I26-I95), through Greensboro (220/I73/I74-I95), or maybe a combination of the two routes to Florida. Anyone have any ideas for ride stops on the return route? Don’t mind detouring a bit, probably drive Saturday, ride Sunday, finish drive on Monday. Not into big jumps or crazy stuff like that. Would love to do it but falling down hurts now.

I thought about detouring to the Asheville area and maybe doing Ride Kanuga (looks like a nice setup and some basic options that I would like) but most hotels around Asheville are stupid expensive right now with all the leaf peepers.

If you're able to venture 30 minutes west from Roanoke, theres a place in Blacksburg called Pandapas Pond/Poverty Creek with a decent amount of trails. I think it has a good mix of trails and I enjoy it. the blacks and blues more chunky stuff rather than jump style stuff

Thanks, I will look it up on Trailforks. If I end up staying the weekend I might make the trip up there.

You ever come down to Tampa area?

Anyway the Kanuga climb is a pain if not on an e-bike. Depending on your climbing ability you might not get your moneys worth if only doing 2-3 runs. If I was stopping by I would probably do a Black Mountain Loop, Trace Ridge/Spencer Gap. Bent Creek and Dupont are nice rides too, if you can camp Bent Creek they have hot showers/clean amenities.

Roanoke area - carvins cove and explorer park which you probably already know about.

Greensboro area - Bur mill park - owls roost and surrounding trails are probably the better ones to ride that you can put some miles in. There’s a number of trails around there and basically no hills. You can check if they have any events going on/closures by looking up piedmont fat tire society, they post updates on twitter.

What bike is that? Looks like it has fairly modern clearance but also....a QR skewer?

Might as well come on over to Knoxville and give me a call. Although between UT football and Fall tourism it's probably a similar hotel situation. There are a few dope AirBnbs on the Urban Wilderness trails though

I’d echo what Doom said about Kanuga. If you aren’t in prime shape, plan to rent an e-bike. I put in I think 4 or 5 laps in an afternoon on my regular bike after being on an e-bike that AM. It’s doable, but not for the faint of heart.

Lodging wise you could look into Kanuga Conference center. They are a separate company, but only a half mile or so down the road from the bike park. The two have recently set up a joint booking style thing; rent a room/cabin + day pass. May not be your cup of tea but might be worth a look.

It is a Poseidon Redwood - can handle some meaty tires! Went with the Redwood over their 'X' model due to through axles front and rear as well as the ability to handle up to a 2.6" wide tire. Currently running a 650Bx47, but could beef it up if I start to ride more single track.

Great part of the bike is it's relatively cheap to buy with the understanding components will be upgraded over time.

If you enjoy flow trails, the trail systems at W Kerr Scott Reservoir near Wilkesboro are excellent. Here's a link with 30+ miles of trail to choose from. I've only ridden the Warrior Creek portion, but it's well worth the small detour to the west of i77 IMO.
    https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/770094/kerr-scott-imba-epic

Video of the Warrior Creek flow trail:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOBFRzJ2ooI

A small detour to the east of 220 brings you to the 33+ miles of trail at Angler's Ridge in Danville, VA. They're a decent mix of chunk and flow:
    https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/2643657/anglers-ridge-red-loop-and-witchback

Closer to Charlotte, you have Lake Norman State Park with 30+ miles of decent trail, mostly easy/moderate flow:
    https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/1103692/lake-norman-state-park

Just a few miles west of downtown Charlotte, you also have the 40+ miles of trail at the White Water Center. Great mix of flow, rocks, and small jumps next to the river:
    https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/1566342/wwc-carolina-thread

For route suggestions and other questions for stuff around Charlotte, specifically, your best bet may be to reach out to @Bannerman here on TW - there may be some Charlotte secrets he can share with you.

    Have fun!

Got a group of nine friends heading to Bentonville, Oct 27th-Nov 2nd, staying in an Airbnb at the Coler trailhead. Anything that can't be missed while we are there? Specific trails, Attractions, Breweries, Bars, Restaurants? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Dang I definitely forgot that I have ridden those trails at lake norman. I thought they were pretty solid trails, especially if you are going to be driving through there.
