The relevance of that metric is?

I'd rather drive a 4Runner than a Grand Cherokee, but I will probably never buy either one.

I think you should compare production numbers instead of sales, as they sell whatever they produce and many times before they arrive.

The relevance is the wrong audience.

The nubers are still the same. Toyota would probably produce more units if they think they would sell.

Toyota is projecting there builds on the number of allocations sold. If the allocation isn't pre sold the unit does not get built.

Or I could walk into the dealership tomorrow and purchase what ever 4Runner I wanted to buy.

I'll buy a 4 runner in a New York minute, one of the most reliable SUV's on the road.

The difference between 2021 and 2022 up till Sept is 11,476....Nobody is giving up on the 4 Runner for an 11,476 truck difference.

So supply chain shortages and unprecedented buying due to Covid had nothing to do with you not being able to walk into a dealership tomorrow and purchase a 4 runner....

I mean..did they suddenly change their system and say...hey guys, lots are empty but only build pre sold units...even though we don't actually let a customer order a truck to their specifications....

I think you may be confused as to whey there are no vehicles on the lot for your to go in and purchase tomorrow.

Have you actually tried to buy a 4Runner recently? They’ll try to sell you what they can get, not what you want.

But whatever, this thread is WAY off topic.

Covid is why 4Runner sales were what they were for 21. That's over, supply chain restraints still exist.

Less demand + SCR = Toyota focusing on producing other vehicles than 4R. Less 4R sold.

Yup three different out of network dealers. No 4Runner for you! Ok I wasn't going to pay the market adjustment anyhow.

Completely disagree. In this market if Toyota made more they would sell more. If they could put some on the lots for walk up buyers they would sell them just based upon availability compared to the competition.

Their sales numbers are determined by their production numbers not the other way around. They are ramping down production and sales is following

The Tahara plant is Japan is where the 4 runner is made, the plant can make 300K vehicles a year, and the same number of engines, the plant currently makes the Lexus LS, GS, IS, IS F, GX as well as the Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado, Vanguard, RAV4, WISH,and 4Runner.

In 2021 Toyota built 130,845 4 runners for the US and Canada out of that factory, and is on track to build almost the same number in 2022. Seems to me that with all those other models built in that factory, the 4 runner has a big chunk of the production. Yeah..the 4 runner and that factory aren't going anywhere.

That is probably the most iconic and best factory that toyota has, if not any car maker in the world has. That factory turns out legendary reliable vehicles. The 4 runner is not going anywhere.

But to get back on topic, that factory will start putting Turbo 4 cylinder engines in the 4 runner for the next gen, just like the next Gen Tacoma is gonna get...

I'm sure Toyota is hampered by the world-wide chip shortage just like every other manufacturer...but so far we haven't seen photos of thousands of Toyotas in vast parking lots built and sitting for 6 months waiting for chips.

I'm wondering if they'll do away with the DCLB to simplify production so there is only one frame to be manufactured. They did it to the RC when the 3rd gen came out. AC and DCSB are on the same frame IIRC. I also can't imagine DCLB is a very high percentage of sales.

Especially because you cannot combine a DCLB and a manual transmission; I would have requested a long bed if they did.

I'll believe it when there's a press release.

Tried to find the video, but it has been made private, maybe gave away a little too much info. There was a lot of speculation in the video, I guess the guy making it had just come from or gotten future plans given to dealers and kinda spilled too many beans.

Land Cruiser is off my radar (at least new anyway) I was more concerned with the 4 Runner and if the next Gen will be made in Japan. Which was why the video caught my eye.

Trying to time the newest version of the old design if you will. If the new gen is still made in Japan, I might give it a try. If not, I may try to get my hands on a couple of 4 runners..lol
