My H100I GTX is as old as my PC; almost 6 years old keeping my CPU cool so I'm guessing yours is as old if not older.

Wouldn't consider using it on a new processor, given that I'm unsure how long of a life the pump actually has...that and Alderlake is larger (physically) than my current Skylake.

I’m hoping noctua improves the NH-D15 by the time I go full rebuild. They’ve fallen behind and just rely on name now and are overpriced compared to the competition. My current Scythe Mugen 5 rev B with Arctic P12 fan keeps my 3600 30-34 at idle and ~50 when gaming iirc

I run similar temps, though I never really exceed 50 when full gaming on my old ass CPU.

Unless you're absolutely serious about overclocking, etc. it's fair that most aftermarket coolers will provide more than most of us need.

Thermaltake has a lot of nice micro atx cases to work with that allow longer GPUs, which TT case are you looking at? I've also had a few Fractal and Corsair cases in the past, I've been floating towards cube cases over the past few years myself.

As for cooler, I went with the TT Water 3.0 240mm, keeps my 10850k cool but I didn't OC as I would need something more to keep that chip cool. Seems all the AIO coolers from the major brands are pretty much the same in terms of overall performance and installation.

Looking at the Thermaltake S100 (white) or Corsair 275R (white).

I had a Thermaltake full-size some 14 years ago when I ran a Wolfdale and dual cards; not that I need such a heavy duty case but I was floored with the quality.

I'll be taking a chance if I go Corsair though since I've never had one before.

Always liked Fractal due to their minimalist design, quality, and value.

Never done a cube build though sometimes I consider it; have you done many? I'd hate to be scrunched up in some areas when talking about cable routing.

I'll look at that cooler you mentioned. I've always run air up until my last few builds when I switched to closed loop coolers. Prefer to stay with a closed loop cooler this time around.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Technology improves at such a rapid pace it's difficult to actually buy instead of waiting until the next highest performing thing comes out. Like I have the 1080 TI, and each generation that has came out after it I've considered buying but the gain in performance isn't worth the money, and then the cards become more affordable but then the latest and greatest comes out promising even more performance so I wait for that. Rinse repeat lol.

Funny, cause a GPU is last on my list to upgrade.

Based on my use, my CPU is my bottleneck and only once my new setup is up and running will my GPU be the bottleneck.

But replacing that GPU won't happen for awhile as my needs are fairly easy to achieve.

But you're absolutely right; shit changes fast!

Intel bringing the heat with raptor lake. No need for an actual heater this winter if you have a 13900k and 4090

The S100 looks like a nice little case, you doing a full white theme with it?

I've done a few now, started with the Corsair 540 and from there went smaller with Fractal Node 804 (this was an awesome little case to work with) and then I wanted to change things up so went to the TT Tower 100 Mini. This case was extremely difficult to work with, limited cooling options and the 3070 I had at the time was at the limit space wise. I'm now in a TT Core V21 which I really like. It doesn't have as much room as the Node 804 but vastly superior to the Tower 100 Mini for space, cable management and airflow.

I don't have any case only photos, but here's my setup and you can see how little room the Core V21 takes up on my desk. This is the main reason why I switched to cube/matx cases. It also means I can keep getting bigger monitors, the main screen is a G9 Neo for reference and the laptop next to it is a Razer Blade 13.3 Stealth.

    So, I thought I'd look into the cases before I came back and replied;

I hate that you listed those, specifically the Core V21, cause whenever I looked at a cube case I was too worried about cable management to make the jump into one. That case is making me consider it otherwise.

My idea was just blacked out gear, maybe some white lighting, and a white case for contrast so a real 'basic' style.

All my other cases have always been black with 1 primary color for contrast (limited to the lighting on a GPU and/or MOBO).

FWIW I really like my phanteks cases. I have a P400S in gloss white and a P600S matte white.

    @aggietaco

I just realized, and I tagged you cause were in a similar situation of doing a 'small upgrade'

My 6 year old PC, Z170MX chipset runs 32gb of DDR4 RAM clocked at 3000mhz.

My new build uses a B660M chipset, so DDR4. I can use the same RAM I have now.

My PSU is an Corsair AX, apparently was their Platinum model so unless I buy premium again, I can use the same PSU as well. For some reason I thought I had used mid-tier like previous builds.

Guess I only need a case and cpu cooler and I can get going.

Ordered a Crucial P5 M.2 Gen 4 SSD which I'll run my OS on.

That’s what’s awesome about the psu, start off with a decent enough one and it should be good for 10 years. That’s why I replaced the cheap one that came in my pre built with a Corsair rmx850. That P5 is the exact same one I would choose too. I actually ended up cancelling my 5600 order and decided to just wait for the 5800x3d to get cheaper in a year or so. I moved up to 1440p so all I really need is a gpu now.
it’s only 2 weeks away for rdna3 reveal, but with 6800//6800xt being priced at $500-530 it’s getting more difficult to hold out

It's funny cause I kept doubting certain things until I just looked at my old Newegg order history. Sucks I don't have my Fry's receipts, plus having gone out of business sucked too.

I moved up to 1440p gaming about 2 years ago when I got a new monitor, otherwise my entire build is old and oudated yet running games fine on Ultra.

    What's your bottleneck so far?

Gpu since I have an rx580 and I’m at 1440p. I wouldn’t sniff 60fps if I tried ultra settings in Call of Duty. Mostly low to even get 70-90fps

Ahh I'm way unfamiliar with AMD GPU's.

    GTX 1080 TI here.

I really want to get a 3070 but other stuff is priority

Is the "XT" on an AMD card similar in how a "TI" compares to a non-TI card?

Yeah you’re pretty much double the gpu performance of my card. Yours was the flagship release in 2016 and mine is about like a 1060 and came out in 2017. and it think xt is like Ti.
