    Yeah.. maybe.. kinda..
But there's a difference between a "P5 opponent" and what I'm calling a powerhouse team. When was the last time you saw an Alabama team play a Clemson or Georgia or Ohio State in the early weeks of the season? Yeah... I can't remember either..

Yeah this isn’t a good argument lol.

I actually agree with @dwalden2 that rankings shouldn’t exist early on but they need talking points. I would lobby for rankings staying how they are from the end of the previous season. Georgia won the title, why did they not start #1? Oh right, because Alabama gets preferential treatment. Just makes no sense.

as stated previously alabama can lose a game early, to literally any team, and they still control their own destiny because they start ranked higher. Other teams cannot.

They've opened with Michigan, VTech, FSU, Wisconsin, etc.

Last year, Clemson opened with UGA. Alabama opened with Miami.

    Simply not true.

Many teams "control their own destiny" during the season. They typically dont handle business.

Alabama has to either go undefeated or lose early, to make it to the playoffs. There is one season where they did get preferential treatment because they didnt win the SEC. (Let's instead focus on what had to happen for Alabama to get in that year....which was other teams shitting the bed....). Otherwise, people want 2 or potentially 3 loss teams in the playoff, instead of Alabama. HAHAHAHAHA.

    Hence, 12 team playoff.

Alabama is down, these last two years coming off an undefeated season (#2 since 2007) and Natty.

    Will Anderson has been quiet
    All receivers have been quiet
    Jordan Battle nonexistent
DBacks back to getting torched by post routes.
Bryce Young seems to have taken a page out of Tua's book and has started holding on to the ball for entirely too long.
    O-line isnt dominant this year
DLine isnt freaky strong or fast
    No downhill, punishing running backs

Alabama is not executing. They are NOT playing like a high caliber team. It is still early, and most teams are still getting identities and adjusting the chemistry. Alabama looks lost on defense, and the offense doesnt really have a life until it is urgent.... I suppose they could click, but that typically doesnt happen with Alabama. Its either there, or it isnt.

UGA seems to be on point, as well at UT. It will be interesting to see if UT can last the whole season.

I'm thinking a B2B Natty Champ is on the menu.

Well, now you want Alabama to be responsible for other program's success?

    Interesting.

Many teams declined to play Alabama, first game of the season for a while. So, it was more of a "We'll play who wants to play us" type of deal.

    The offers were out there.

Will be interesting to see what, if anything, LSU can do against Alabama in 2 weeks.

South Carolina beat A&M, but their offense and defense still are concerning. Special teams and a miscue by the A&M QB spotted USC 17 points. Take away one turnover and USC is on the losing end. Of course, the officials called breathing on an A&M receiver PI, but were letting the USC receivers be mugged on a pretty regular basis (that one in the end zone where they picked up the flag was particularly bad). USC may get into a bowl and a 7-5 record seems realistic at this point, but unless the O-Line improves, the bowl could be particularly ugly.

Yeah. Georgia is a beast this year. I know Kent State and Mizzou played them hard/close, but I think those were a case of mental preparation/overlooking opponents. Since then, what they did to Vandy and Auburn is just plain dominance. From their remaining schedule, I only see two teams with a chance at beating them - Kentucky and Tennessee. Kentucky I give a 10% chance but Tennessee more like a 40% chance. They have an explosive offense, but I see Georgia playing for time of possession and keeping the ball away from Hooker. And GA has an explosive offense too, that I think can more than keep up if the need arises. Not saying Tennessee can't win, just that I think GA is more likely to do so. As for the SEC CG? Depends on which Alabama shows up. Doubtful Ole Miss is going to make it after the whoopin' LSU put on them yesterday. Also do not see LSU beating Alabama. Odds are, GA runs the table, barring a total collapse.

before the season began, I said I thought we lose to Tennessee. I still won’t be shocked if that happens. I hope it doesn’t, obviously. My concern right now is overlooking Florida. We definitely have the better team, but the rivalry games - who really knows. This is the ultimate trap game. Florida isn’t good. But if they overlook them and are looking at Tennessee instead, it could get dicey.
There are a couple images out there that make me feel better about the UT game. I’ll have to see if I can find them. One is a comparison of Stetson and Hooker, and the other is a breakdown of scoring offense and YPG against P5 and FCS teams of the top 5 or 6 teams I think. The stats are interesting.

As far as playing for TOP, that’s gonna be a tough one. Tennessee has a top 10 rush defense in the country. Pass defense is down in the 120s. But, if UGA is gonna try to just run the ball and keep Hooker and the boys off the field, I’m not sure it’s gonna work out too well.
