“Dangerous to drive”…344 miles on truck.

2022 Tacoma with 344 miles on it. Went to crank it and big red light says”check charging system”. I go to the manual and it says it’s “dangerous to drive”.
Having it towed back to dealer.
What the heck?

 

Did the truck start? That message is normal when the truck is turned off.

 

Haven’t seen this message before. I cranked truck and it came back on.

I did call service department and they said send it in.

 

Start the truck.

 

If your engine is off but you have the ignition on, it will always flash that up as there is an active drain on the battery.

 

Completely normal if the truck is off and you have the accessories turned on. Unless If the message came on while engine is running and you drove around a little bit to charge the battery.

 

I did. Cut it off and light is back on.
Never seen this before when I got in. I am new to Toyota so go easy on me.

Just to clarify, are you saying that the light stays on when running? Mine does this if I turn the key to “run” without starting. It goes away as soon as the engine is started.

This gave me a panic attack when I first saw it on my brand new truck, too.

Any time the truck is off and battery is on this message is displayed. Accessory mode, listening to the radio, anything like that.

No. Not when engines runs. But I really don’t think this has come on before.

 

Completely normal. If I could I would take a video of mine. Engine off means the message appears. It just a fancy battery symbol like on older cars. If it stays off when driving then you have no problems. Don’t take it to the dealer. Waste of time.

 

My 2020 truck did that when i had a dirty door switch. Took 5 minutes to correct with some deoxit spray cleaner in the switch.

Sorry. I panicked when I saw something I had never seen before.

 

Yea I’ll just reiterate what everyone else has said…That message will pop up every time the truck is off but the key is turned to turn the electronics on. 100% normal and no need to tow it. It’s just telling you that the battery isn’t charging because the engine is not running.

 

If it comes on while driving or idling then you have a problem…
I wasn’t yelling lol

Glad the forum could help! It’s a stupid message for them to have flash on the screen, in my opinion.

I remember the first time I saw it, I was on a road trip and I was thinking fuuuuuuuckk. Then I figured out what it meant lol.
