I also panicked when mine showed this every time I was turning the key. At first, I thought the battery hadn’t been properly charged at the delivery. Anyway, agree Toyota should fix the warning message or include an additional paragraph in the manual.

 

Yours is so broken it came up in French.

 

You need to break the truck in. Take it to a track and get the speedo up to 140mph.

Yep... When I first bought my Tacoma I parked it then turned the key on without starting. Same message. Never had a problem with it.

I doubt it, certainly not with out some sort of modification. The speedometer goes up to 140. Not sure why Toyota placed a 140mph speedo in a Tacoma? I don't think the gearing would present that possibility.

So to put a bow on my fiasco…
Here’s what I was doing: I went out to program some radio stations in and turned the key. The reason I had not seen this before is because I always just cranked the truck…never just putting it on what I think used to be call “ALT” setting (maybe that’s still the name).
So that caused this idiot to see that idiot light and get me all in a wad.
So for future idiots: don’t panic.

Don't be too hard on yourself. If you put the key in and start the truck right up the warning doesn't appear, only if you sit with the key on for a few seconds.

Older vehicles have red lights for oil, amp, temp & brake that come on (as a bulb check) when you turned the key on, naturally they go out when the engine is started.
Drivers of the era were familiar with this and ignored it for the most part -- many ignored them when they came on while driving too.

When a written warning comes up on these modern vehicles folks suddenly take it much more seriously - and sometimes panic, you aren't the first.
