I’m in the middle of installing my OME lift and I’m trying to compress the springs but I’m having difficulty threading the nut at the top. I have the spring compressed to where it is more than enough room, it’s more of getting the bushings to compress. I have the two bushings that ARB supplies and I bought new top hats which has a bushing underneath/built into the top hat. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I’ve never had this much difficulty building coilovers.

Are you using a spring compressor out in the truck method?

Yes, I’m compressing the spring outside the truck.

Do you have to hold back on the threads the nut is threaded onto?

I have to push down on the top washer trying to compress all the bushings in order to thread the nut. I just can’t compress the bushings enough for a nut to catch

Are you using hand tools or an impact gun? When I installed my OME springs on the 5100 it was easier using the impact gun to compress the spring down.

Did you stack the bushing that came with the kit and the bushing that is attached to the underside of the top hat? You only need one or the other under the top hat and one above (with washers of course).

I believe you just saved me :anonymous:the current order I have things from top to bottom is.
    Washer
    ARB Bushing
    TopHat
    (Top hat bushing underneath)
    ARB Bushing
    Washer.
Should I remove the bottom arb bushing and keep the top hat bushing in place?

I’ve never had luck with any aftermarket springs and the spring compressors you can rent, they are ok for Honda Civic springs but truck springs are too stiff. You need a wall mounted spring compressor. Take ‘em to a local shop and Mark the index, they usually charge 20 bucks since they are apart and off the truck
