My dad told me he had a dream the other day he had 12 cows and the fence got knocked down and several people helped him get them rounded up and when they were done he had 18.

I said except for the 18 part we chased your cows for 20 years when I was younger cause they was always getting out :rofl::rofl:

Yes, all the references to panther tractor came back Steiger, but another like that had came back similar. It was distinctly bright neon green and the word “PANTHER” was in large bold black, with “by Caterpillar” below. To me it was unusual because most stuff here is CAT in the simplified black yellow form. The A was the yellow triangle. The disc set he had was pretty impressive.

They’re in the middle of sugarcane season, so lots of cutting/hauling/processing going on.

Fair bit of hay rolls going on as well, but most of that is already completed.

The tells are the door vent windows - first year and turn style outer door handles - last year.

Under the hood will be (originally) the 216 cubic inch (3.5L) "Stovebolt" six cylinder, compression was up to 6.6 to 1 by then (1949) and 92 hp.

Two transmission choices, both of the do-it-yourself variety, 3 speed on the wheel and HD 4 on the floor. Hydramatic wasn't available in GM trucks until the last year of the AD, 1954.

The lovely Susan George drove a similar AD truck in Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974), a fun road movie from another time. "Larry" was Peter Fonda.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry was obviously done long before CGI and featured a helicopter being flown in a manner never really seen before in the movies.

James Gavin is an unsung movie hero who deserves to be mentioned, for over 30 years if there was a helicopter in a movie or TV series there was a good chance he was at the controls. Although his skills enthralled film viewers often he wasn't even credited. He passed in 2005 at age 70.

In a way he fits in with us Wrenchmen, we too are frequently in the background when the folks in "the office" get the accolades for a job well done. :proposetoast: A toast to Mr. Gavin, honorary Wrenchman.
