Is cold air intake worth it?

I have a 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road with a few mods. It was replaced by a 2019 that I loved that was totaled by severe high impact a rear end accident. Not off road driving (it's really just a daily driver now) yet so just to make it look like it should have been delivered from the factory, I leveled it with a Pro Comp Nitro 3" leveling kit, changed the wheels and tires to Method 704 17x8.5 and BFG 285/70R17. Next year I do plan on upgrading the 4 corners to Fox's latest and greatest at roughly the same height. And transferred my Tacoma 2019 ovtune license to my 2022 and programmed it. It runs great and I am happy. This is a fun truck to drive!

My question for the thread is: Is cold air intake worth it on the Taco? K&N used to be the gold standard but currently appears to me, to be a hot air intake given the design. S&B looks OK but the build quality seems off. Injen looks best to me. BUT is cold intake on these Taco's worth the price or is it just loud noise BS?

I don't have any friends that own Tacoma trucks so am making this post for input.

No. The only thing that will give the Tacoma more power is a super charger.

Long answer...Nope.

 

Tacomas pull air from the wheel well, already a “cold air” intake for the most part. If anything look into the TRD “air accelerator” to replace the stock air box gasket in the wheel well

 

Did mine don't regret. Probly didn't help but sounds good and looks the bees knees

 

Which one did you install?

 

@jconn, two items to keep in mind:

1. Your Tacoma came from the factory with a CAI
2. K&N, far from being the gold standard, is, from a filtration perspective, a pile of stinking garbage; their filters don't filter for crap.

 

I came to say the same. I know all of this and yet I still want one on my Tundra simply for the engine bay bling.

 

That plus accelerated engine wear. No thanks, stock is the way to go.

 

Maybe, maybe not. Hard to quantify that in black and white considering all of the variables at play over such a long period of time.

It's actually very easy to quantify; run a K&N for say, 10,000 miles, send your used oil in for analysis, and then don't be surprised at all of the silicone (aka. sand) in the results.

Not speculation; go over to the BITOG web site and look up UOAs from folks running K&N filters (and other filters of that ilk).

 

I will also not be doing that as I simply do not care that much about air filters on trucks.

 

Cool, then why run a filter at all? Given how poorly K&N filters filter the air, there really isn't much of a difference.

 

I’m not running a K&N filter because they’re trash, but you know this.
