Also strongly depends on the industry you are talking to. I have imperial deeply embedded in my brain but getting better after the last couple years. Try sitting with a facilities team talking about construction and talk in metric and they will go blank, doesn't compute when all of the materials available are in imperial dimensions. I've also had to adjust with the younger engineers I work with that have been raised on metric, even though it is going to mean higher cost to us on our product because if we were using imperial fasteners we could get the equivalent or even higher strength at a lower cost due to availability. I've evolved to being fairly fluent in both as far as dimensions go, I'm still working on torque but I think my next work build will probably get me over the hump there as well. People need to learn both to function in any manufacturing environment, or at least that is my opinion.

But there shouldn't even be "both", when one method is just plain dumb.

I scuba dive. We're the only morons that insist on doing gas calcs in PSI and cubic feet. Makes zero sense.

Nice setup! We take our coffee pretty seriously too, with a Baratza grinder for fresh ground beans every morning and a OXO coffeemaker. We use a Costco low acid bean these days which is really flavorful.

All of which is why I don't spend way too much for a cuppa joe.

We learned all metric in school. First place I worked was all imperial except for the lab (that was fun when both sides tried to talk about something like diesel that was off spec for freeze point, for example). Now I'm having to re-adapt to metric at my new job. I sometimes will convert pressure or temperature into imperial just to understand what's going on better.

I work for a fairly old and significant water/power company in NorCal and we use all the above and including acre-ft.

An acre-foot is stupid dumb to explain. Good times otherwise!

I'd assume at acre-ft is not too complex. Without prior knowledge or having heard of it, I'd assume 1 acre-ft would be 1 acre is size and 1ft deep? I know the numbers would be complex for an idjit like myself, but is that the basic idea?

You got it. 325,850 gallons of water.

We measure some of our reservoirs in ac-ft and some in millions of gallons. So I use the conversion quite a bit. Just another random unit of volume.

^Nah, there's probably a hole in each of his hands, similar to ear gauges and other large-diameter piercings.
