    Hi everyone,

I have been striking out lately looking for the 2 piece grommets that secure floor mats to the carpet. The local dealership parts counter have either been too lazy to try to help or don’t have the expertise to know how find what I need.

The best they can offer is for me to replace the whole carpet just so I can replace these parts. What I’m trying to do is upgrade the floor mats to either weathertech’s or husky’s but the grommets that the plastic anchors would latch to are missing 1 of 2 on each side (driver & passenger).

There are no local junkyards I could travel to and I have come up with no options online. Please find the attached pictures of what I’m referring to. Thank you for any input on what route I can take to get this taken care of! 64EB44D4-9AF9-4247-ABFB-96FD22D6AFC4.jpg60786AB9-63BF-4F1F-A1DD-694C4A66B611.jpg

Erm... I don't know that Toyota sells those separate, I'm sure they do come already installed in a new carpet. If you really, really wanted, I'm sure you could measure the ID (or just guess it's 3/8", close enough as it's probably 10mm) and buy some grommets & an install tool for a few bucks.

That out of the way, I've got a set of whatever they call the heavier Husky liners (much preferred over WT mats I've had, BTW) and they come with their own carpet screw attachment thingy. Basically a coarse, tapered 'screw' with a wide flat head that goes into the carpet, and then a knob that screws onto machine threads on the top of it to hold the mat. All the floor mat clippy things that came with the truck are in my random truck crap bin.

I think you got the gist. They did provide the hook thing’s at no charge already. I believe they still need the grommets to fit into. I’ll probably need to mcguiver something together if I can’t find a OE solution.

Thanks for the offer on the floor mats. I have also heard the Husky ones are better than the WT’s. I’m resource limited right now or else I’d ask for the price of your mats.

I’d just pick these up and install your own. You’ll have to take part of the carpet up to get access. Should be easy enough.

Your floor mat project is very doable, @VatoTaco09, if you're willing to fool around with it for a while. Here are a few options you can think about -- and I'm sure there are more ways to skin this cat, too.

I cut rubber sheet checkerplate mats for all my vehicles. They wear like iron and are thin enough to not take legroom (I'm 6' 6").

For the ones on my Gen 2 (2015) I really had to hunt the grommets for the mats -- the grommets that mate with the toggle retention clips on the Tacoma's carpet. I found those grommets on eBay from a seller in Latvia, of all places, and the project worked perfectly.

I don't know if the OEM retention toggles are available, but I'll bet they are someplace is the greater Toyota/Lexus universe, 'cause those are used on lots of cars. Like my corresponding grommets, they might be found from an unexpected source.

As I was hunting bits and pieces, I found some eBay retention toggles that attached to carpet with a long pin molded into the piece, and some grommets from the VW parts bin. The VW grommets don't fit the OEM Toyota toggles, so I didn't use them, but it shows there are options out there if you dig.

Another option are the special mat retention toggles used for the all-weather floor option for the Gen 2 trucks. In order not to have a penetration through the rubbery floor where water could get to the floorboards, Toyota designed a special clip that mounts near the seat that positions the retention toggles in the right place "floating" on top of the floor. These have a part number any dealer can order.

These are some viable options and appreciate the response. I will keep them in mind in case I can’t source an OE solution.

I don’t think so. If you notice the picture I posted the ones I have are different. I actually ordered those through my local dealership and they are not compatible. I considered them but the mats would not lock in the same.

Can you post a photo taken closer to the retention hook? I can’t see enough detail in the pix in your first post.

The dealer should have stock of the carpet hole repair kits. They use to be be free. I think they’re a couple bucks now. No part number of hand unfortunately. But 5 years ago I got them for repairing my fathers hook on his 02

Sure looks close but this one looks different. I hadn’t seen this one. I’m not sure that the Toyota replacement kit would fit into it

the repair kit will fit. its not the same as the factory hole. its a little larger of a plastic clip to make up for potentially worn out carpet holes., install and the J hook will pop in
