On paper I was worried about it being too small but seeing it in person, I'm not the slightest bit worried. Plus, being a smaller diameter allows me to have a thicker wall and keep the weight comparable to the stock shaft.

Alright, more driveshaft digging. This part would be a direct replacement for our stub shaft and is designed for a 2"x.120 wall tube. It's 1" shorter than ours but that can be made up with an extra 1" of tubing. The spline length is the same so it would still have the same overall plunge.

Downside, it appears difficult to source. Upside, an overall much tighter fitment while welding this together resulting in it being better balanced/able to be balanced at a driveshaft shop.

edit: I'm going to start emailing spicer dealers and inquiring about ordering the part. I'm curious on availability. I would rather do this than my original plan if I can get the part in the next week or two.

Finding that powertrain industries website has been super helpful. Currently at the axle end, I have a 1350 weld yoke and a 1330->1350 U joint. I was able to find the correct 1330 weld yoke so no need for a special U joint.

Anyways, all anyone would need to make their own beefy driveshaft on a budget is 2-28-2777, 2-40-01930 and about 30" of 2" DOM tube. No cutting anything up.

That factory replacement isn't difficult to source, it's the other one that I can't find. It would allow me to use the same splines as stock but accept the 2" x .120 DOM tube. Basically piece together a stout driveshaft without breaking the bank.

My current plan will still work really well, getting the new slip joint would just take it to another level.

Basically I'm using these two pieces to make my own version of 2-40-01930.

Well well well, looks like Summit may be coming in clutch here.

edit: $60 later, order placed. We'll find out by early next week if their in stock status was accurate or not. If it hasn't shipped by then it's safe to assume it's truly backordered and there was a glitch saying it was in stock.

You basically package it back up and mail it back.

You have to pay shipping so the savings over buying it locally may not be worth it.

I will definitely wait to order one until tomorrow then and check the price locally first!

And of course the weather had to turn cold now that I need to do hours worth of wrenching on the truck! Got our first snow of the season overnight last night!
