I would take it to a professional detailer and see what they say.

I detailed professionally and recreationally 10 years ago or so, that paint is way past clear coat damage, it needs a body shop

Toyota seems to have gotten the color silver down but most of the other colors seem to fade from what I've seen.

I detail cars on the weekends as a side gig, but I'm not a professional so take that for what its worth.

Usually, sun damage and oxidation can be polished out, I did a full 3 stage paint correction and polish on my land cruiser and restored a lot of the surface damage. I've detailed dozens of cars and trucks with sun damage/oxidation and unless there is some factory defect, most of the time the paint can be corrected but its not a gauretnee.

Gotta say my inferno MGM and BSP I never had an issue with fading.
Of course we don’t get the temps or blazing sun as others.

I wouldn’t expect that much damage that soon. My red first gen did fade/oxidize in the FL sun, but not near that bad and it was 12 years old when I sold it.

Your clear coat is gone. This is a manufactures defect and has nothing to with how often you wax or wash.

Having the same issues with my 18 Inferno on the roof and hood. I live in Phoenix so the sun is hell, but still very disappointing for a 5 year old $35K truck.

All i can say is i had a porsche red toyota back in the day that faded so bad in 7 years, you would know it was that color anymore. I swear red is the worst for fading.

I've talked to a number of industry guys. This is across the entire industry. The EPA mandated the paint process change from the older stuff to stuff that didn't kill turtles or blow a hole in the ozone layer. The paint is slightly thinner, but more brittle, making for some of these conditions.

So we can have really nice paint on our vehicles, or a planet to live on

That kind of paint fade is usually from using the wrong PH soap for vehicles. Classic "dawn" dishwasher soap effect mixed in with UV penetrating rays.

I'll take the former and the EPA can keep pushing it's lies. But hey, I'm just a peasant with no say.

VOCs (volatile organic componds) are rough on the environment. That's one of the main things that's been reduced or even eliminated in some cases in most paint formulas.

Hopefully at some point in the future they can come up with a balance between environmentally friendly paints and durability.

    Hey OP, here's mine.
    2018 SR5 - Original Owner
60K miles in Florida although it does spend afternoons in the garage. Dealer said that sucks and they told me to call Toyota, so I formally made a complaint. Figure that's about all I can do for now. I'm planning on satin black vinyl wrapping the roof.

However, the hood is starting to do it now and I am watching it happen in real time. The roof snuck up on me, I had no idea until I looked up there recently but now I can't stop watching the hood start to do it.

If it was me, I'd clay that roof and wrap it like you stated. Then you don't need to worry about it again, esp in the Florida heat

Funny you mention it, I discovered this when I went up there to clay it. I clayed and waxed the whole truck the week before last. I guess if there was a good time to do it, it would be now...

That is not paint fade. That is clear coat damage typically caused by lack of protectant (wax, etc.) and/or chemical damage. I just had the roof and hood of my wifes 2011 Highlander repainted for same issue. Expensive, but the wife's whining was even worse.
