So my brother just gave me a 3,500lb winch , now I’m debating if to put it on my 2gen taco hidden in the stock bumper , I mean I’d like to but is it worth it ? Having a winch or no winch it will be useful later on ??

It might work if you get half stuck....... I think the smallest winch I would put on a Tacoma would be 8,000 lbs, just me. Double the weight of the truck for winch weight.

That small piece of aluminum for our bumper will not even come close to supporting that
I know it’s only 3.5K. But think about it for a min

I have a 9500 lb winch on my truck.
3500 lb winch won't do anything but squeal and drain the battery.
    Good luck with your truck.

There are kits that’ll replace the aluminum crash bar with a winch mount and retain the stock plastic bumper. It’s pretty slick.

OP, 3500 winch is useless on our trucks if you’re talking vehicle recovery. Plus the bolt pattern is likely different than the common 8,000-10,000 lb winches these mounts are designed around.

That size winch will pull you up a trailer to get towed, but most flat backs already have their own winch. As far as usefulness for getting stuck, you’ll need 3-4 snatch blocks to make it worth your while and by then you’ll be out of line and time.

Hey, wait, there was that guy that said we never need more then a 2,000 lbs winch, because he had like 14 snatch blocks and nylon rope for recoveries....

Pass on it. Unless your main use will be recovering SXS's, and ATV's.

A 3500 lb winch is designed for a UTV. That is what I'm putting on my Honda Pioneer. I would hold out for something better. Everything under $1000 is Chinese made and the ones at Harbor Freight are as good, if not better, than the ones made in China that have better known brand badges on them. Watch out for the 20% off sales they run several times a year and get a deal.

But that doesn't mean it won't help. I've gotten unstuck with the aid of nothing more than a 2 ton come-a-long in the past.

There are lots of ways to get out of trouble without a winch and even an under powered one helps. It's just easier to do it with a bigger winch.

I agree with everyone to pass on this, you will just burn up the winch or waste alot of time setting up a weird physics experiment when all you want is to be unstuck. I went with a second hand Warn Evo 8S and after a little work couldn't be happier, my opinion is 8k is the smallest i feel comfortable with on Tacoma's.

You can gain.mechanical advantage bye using pullies...to compensate for small winch.
