My auto response says the driver is focused.

 

KBB and NADA says it's 44500. We'll see what they say. Either way I have GAP.

 

Be sure and look at used truck values on cars dot com, autotrader, etc.

 

"Uninsured motorist" insurance when insurance is mandated by law. Ain't that something. I do it too.

Distracted driving is a thing, but so is ABS.

 

Also, newer cars are now coming with "collision avoidance systems". While I hate cars being so cluttered with tech, I am begrudgenly seeing the point in them. I trust my driving but there are so many distracted and low IQ drivers that I can get on board and support them for my own protection. Hell even my last Toyota and my 22 Tacosport will brake automatically for you in certain situations. Not sure if it would slam on the brakes to avoid me rear ending someone. Any one know that answer?

 

In four years and 85,000 miles, mine may or may not have saved my bacon at least once. Freeway drops down into a tunnel, someone rear-ended someone up ahead, I was tired from a long day... the beeping went off and I jammed the brakes but the pedal was already hard. Stopped just short. Who knows...

I think it's making drivers worse. Too much reliance on the tech and distractions galore, just makes sharing the road, especially a traffic environment just suck.

 

Years ago, I rooted my android phone which allowed me to add auto response which factory didn't come with it that time. Now most phones have auto response (or driving focus on new iPhones)

I chose my own auto reply message instead of the default messages that came with the phone.

 

Every modern vehicle MUST be built with crumple zones to meet safety standards. Rather break a frame than your back.

 

Bummer about the truck being totaled, but at least you are ok.

 

That's a very ignorant statement. Crumple zones (front and rear) have been around for decades and have saved countless lives.

 

Problem is people can pay up for the initial insurance and then stop once they have the plate..or just steal a playte.

In theory it's a supplement to driving smart..in reality, it sadly is seen as the over-reliance you mentioned.

Backs are a lot harder to replace, ask me how I know

 

My truck just got totaled the same way. 2018 Off-Road. I was told KBB, NADA, and sites like CarMax mean nothing.They will only look at actual for sale vehicles at dealerships in you area (~30 miles) that are the same trim and year as yours. They used autotrader for the most part. Then they take an average of the prices of 8-10 trucks minus roughly $2500 to account for the money dealers spend on prepping a vehicle for sale, since the truck wasn't in perfect shape to sale at the time of the crash.Plus they pay taxes and fees on top of that amount. YMMV

 

um isn’t available in all states. and there’s both bodily injury (bi) and/or property damage (pd). not everybody get um (or uim) as it doesn’t make sense on all policies.

 

I'm guessing that she didn't have a license, either?

 

That happened to us back in 2017 I want to say. Young girl wasn't pay attention in a construction zone. Mother was stopped and she plowed right into the back of the Camry. Had a "valid" insurance card, but the next day when we were making a claim that person did not have insurance at all... So, we were on the hook for our deductible due to someones complete negligence all the way around.


EDIT: To make this slightly ironic, the car that hit mother was a Chrysler 200 or something like it as well. Seems to be a trend....

 

yeah this is common. people keep their old id card even if it’s not valid.

"Kia boys" aren't technically the owners. Quite the opposite

 

A bigger issue is that we make it way too easy to get a license. We don't train our drivers near enough to put them behind a several thousand pound piece of steel that goes flying down the road. I wish we did our training more like the Germans:
