    Hey guys
Just went to jump my buddies car and noticed the oil cap was missing?!? Have no idea how long it’s been missing. Went back to the dealer to give them hell for not replacing the cap at the last service and they informed me that this is a new reoccurring issue with new Tacoma’s….Has anyone else had this problem? Brand new 2021 tacoma with now 18k miles. Does anyone know what kind of damage may have been done to my engine?

Sounds like BS to me, i haven't heard that complaint here, other than them not putting it back on when changing the oil, was it on after your oil change?

I have to put some muscle into unscrewing mine. That sucker sits on there tight.

That excuse sounds like a weasel to me.

I didn’t check the oil cap after the Dealer serviced the truck… But believe me it will be on my pre-drive checklist from now on.

I would assume they left it off from previous oil change, and at the very least, i would have then do a courtesy oil change, if they refuse, change it yourself and dont go back there

The oil level is within limitations and clean with no lights on the dash…I’m assuming nothing catastrophic occurred to the engine?

Nothing catastrophic happened, but there is a small probability of silica and/or moisture entering the opening. And that could eventually cause undue wear/tear over the next several thousand miles.

I would get the oil changed again.

Did oil spew all over the engine?

There are ZERO customer complaints of this issue on the NHSTA website. Sounds like bullsh*t to me. They didn't secure it all the way.

I had to dab a little oil on the seal of mine because it was getting way too hard to take off. Even then it's still snug. Check, change to be on the safe side, if these things really vibrated their oil caps into the great beyond it'd be posted like hell on here and it's not.

Dealer said it was a “new, re-occurring issue.” Maybe at that particular dealership, where they need to find and educate the tech who’s leaving all the oil caps off!

I feel like I could grind the threads completely off of my oil cap and it still wouldn't "vibrate off" :notsure:

Mine's tight; almost afraid of snapping the neck during removal.

like others have said, its usually tight, i use channel locks to break the seal and then unscrew it by hand.

I wouldnt expect any damage, therrs a few fail safes with the oil pickup, filter etc. However moisture from condensation and stuff could get in there.

I personally would do another oil change.

LOL, I expect the TSB for "this new reoccurring issue with new Tacoma’s" to be issued any day now. That is too fucking funny!
