I bought a new Honda Civic 6 months ago. Dash a couple days a week. 30 mpg.

It took a while to figure out but I have it down now. Only dash in good neighborhoods (better tips). Only take good orders. I'd rather sit parked outside a restaurant surfing the internet than take a bad order.

It's not an easy gig that's for sure. The miles/abuse on the car is also terrible.

My favorite orders are $7-$8 for 2 miles. I'll take those all day.

Well, my truck had the good fortune of getting a new frame and all that entails while I was on hiatus from DoorDash; Basically, most of the underside has about 7,000 miles on it in the last four months. The truck just had an oil change less than 3,000 miles ago, the front suspension is brand new, and the brake rotors are brand new; It is basically a brand new truck underneath, so I think I'm gonna stop doing DoorDash to preserve it; I put almost 100 miles on the RAV today doing DoorDash!

Really nice car. I had a 2017 Si before. The new model is way nicer inside. The tech is much more advanced. The headlights are crazy bright.

The Si was much faster, I bought an LX this time. I'd definitely spring for the turbo model. Don't settle for the 2.0 N/A. Just not enough power to move the car.

Thanks for the info, was looking at the Sport Touring MT with the turbo.

I've decided to do an experiment to see how much the price of gas will eat into my profits at nearly $5 per gallon; Things are slow at work right now and they can't afford to pay me to work a full week, so I'm gonna see if I can supplement my reduced hours at NAVMAR with DoorDash during the week. I plan on getting a second job once car show season is over.

I don't know what else to do, but these days it's hard to find an employer that (A) respects the concept of work/life balance and (B) doesn't make vaccinated employees wear masks.

Price of gas will probably take a big portion but it's worth the experiment.

The freedom that food delivery gives you is unmatched. I have 2 kids and a baby's mama that works full time. It's been nice, but unfortunately with gas prices, it's currently not worth it. Maybe if one had a hybrid getting 50mpg it would make sense.

Wish you luck and hope you get decent orders. From what I've read, summer time is a naturally slow time for food delivery.

It also goes without saying that I am never going to use my current truck for DoorDash ever again; I would probably have at least 12,000 fewer miles on my truck if I hadn't done that. Trips to Carlisle and New York are fine because they're almost exclusively on the highway, but no more delivering food with my current truck.

What I'm discussing in the MegaThread right now is also a good chunk of why I'm retiring from DoorDash and Uber Eats for the time being. Sure, wear and tear on my beloved Tacoma is a big part of it, but I really wanted to drive for either of these apps I could save up my money and buy a well-maintained but high-mileage Prius.

People. Are. Assholes. People are assholes like I've never seen before, and I think it's a combination of COVID, other current events, social media, and a spoiled rotten sense of entitlement that was unheard of just a few decades ago. One thing I encountered frequently on the job was obnoxiously by-the-books employees. It was company policy to not let anybody into the restaurants at the height of the pandemic. Most of those who read this probably remember the profanity-laced tirade I got into with a Taco Bell manager back in early 2021 after he stupidly left the door unlocked and I unwittingly wandered in, then he refused to give me the order. This happened at an Arby's as well. Pandemic restrictions were eventually lifted, but fast food places were so short-staffed (and generally staffed by minors) that they locked the doors after dark and made everyone use the drive-thru. One night in probably March or April of 2022, I showed up at the Wendy's in Doylestown and walked right in through an unlocked door. I took a leak, and then came outside to find another DoorDash driver arguing with some stoner teenage employee. Like me, he had walked right in through the unlocked door. Even though we were already inside, these teenagers refused to give us our food. Insulted at being talked down to by someone younger than me, I said some things that I probably shouldn't have said and the vindictive bastard wouldn't even give me the food at the drive-thru. I got unassigned from the order via Dasher support and ended up nuking that particularly Wendy's on Yelp after finding complaints similar to my own from other customers.

One of my first dashes post-Pandemic was a Walmart delivery to some old man's house in January 2021, and the guy thought I was a porch pirate stealing his order that had already been delivered. He didn't know what DoorDash was, which tells me there's a serious communication problem between Walmart and its customers. Needless to say, that was one of the last times I delivered a Walmart order.

Then there was the female Walmart employee who tried to report me because I refused to hand deliver her order into her crowded place of employment; I didn't want to go into the Walmart due to concerns about catching COVID, and I thought I was reasonable in requesting that she meet me out front at my truck. She sent another employee out to get it.

Then, there was the woman who expected me to leave another customer's order at the restaurant to deliver her order, then go back in the opposite direction to the same restaurant and get that other order afterwards.

Oh, and let's not forget last February (2022) when someone at a hotel claimed that the order was never delivered and caused me to have a contract violation that still hasn't gone away. To be fair, I have no way of knowing if the guy who I handed the order to (who claimed to be the customer) was actually the customer and wanted to scam me from the beginning, or if he was just some random person who saw a target of opportunity and pretended to be the customer. Based on how things played out, I am beginning to think that it was the latter scenario...

Combine all of the bullshit with the assholes I encounter on the road and the wear and tear on my truck, and I'm fucking DONE!

Yeah, it would be one thing if you just needed some fast cash for a week's work maybe. Key word, maybe.

I have decided to repurpose this thread to just be about holding down a job when one is on the autism spectrum, since I absolutely refuse to do DoorDash or Uber Eats with my truck anymore.

What is the absolute worst job anybody has ever had? I've had a few of them since October 2013, not including the jobs I had through the special ed system in high school, and the absolute worst job I ever had was detailing cars at a large dealership.
