That one never gets old, you can see the air bags deploy as soon as it comes off the highway.

Better give him some red or green oil base paint and get after that picnic table.
Probably need to pressure wash it first though.

Just finished that. Too tired to sleep now but when I do it’ll be all day. TG for 9 more off. Like a drowning man swimming to an imaginary rock sometimes.

Yes sir. Figured I'd drop in for a few. This is my one night off a week. I was completely exhausted end of shift yesterday. Feeling some time pressure that management always preaches there's never any time pressure...blah blah blah.
Every outage we grind slip rings on both ends of a motor / generator. The motor is larger than a car and hooked to a scoop-tube positioner (basically a massive torque converter) then that drives the generator. It's a huge amount of rotational mass and we have our hands and face right up in there feed tool post grinder back and forth on the rings. Slip rings are what brushes run on.
I basically...in a nice way told them to back off..and think about the tens of millions of dollars of repair cost and lost generation if something goes South.

There's 2 of these MG sets that we grind so four rings total. I got a text this evening from one of the guys I turned over to this morning. They said that the finished up my set-up and called the control room at noon and said they were ready to go...6 hours later waiting and ops still not got their ducks in a row or ready to support the evolution. Go figure.
Edit; four rings on each MG set

Looking at Amazon adds below and see a torque wrench. I purchased one that iirc was called Bull Tools. 250 ft lb wrench and seems well constructed but only minor gripe is that it appears designed to torque in Newton meters because the foot pounds aren't always dead on but plenty close enough.

At the way back job I had a decent young fellow for a boss. I was crouched down (I could do that then...) watching a problem machine and unknown to me he had leaned in over my shoulder.

The conveyor started to jam up (found the issue) and I quickly stood and turned to hit the E stop. My rising shoulder caught him in the solar plexus, I couldn't have hit him any harder if I was trying.

He was quite tall and lean, I had close to 100 pounds on him, his feet left the ground and he flew about 5 feet backward into the control cabinet...:rocket:
    ...hitting the E stop.

I always had plenty of working room after that. :notsure:

Yeah, this isn't so much a invasion of my physical work space but rather phone calls and questioning, are you done yet...how about now, are you almost done, when can we start???? We have a large group of upper management looking at computer screens and live data of job progressing through a time management program; many of these manager types have no idea what the actual work entails.
I think 2 years ago they were hounding me about the same work and I got the impression thought I just take my tools up there and shine those rings up. Not a clue that Operations has to actually light this monstrosity off before I can start the shining process :rofl::rofl:

That is quite possibly the biggest hurdle that exists to actually getting anything done.
