So do some of the new jeeps. The wires are under the seats, not the carpets. You can bed-line plastic ductwork.

I’d take an OEM rubber floor if it cost less.
Had one in my 2nd gen, and I bet it’d fit in the 3rd gen cab. Am I willing to gamble $500 to find out? No... lol

I loved the rubber floor, but after spending $500 for it on my last truck I felt kinda stupid. I should’ve just left it alone and got husky mats instead :notsure:

who is going to roll the dice and find out???

I bet it will. I have had ACC kits for several vehicles. You need to trim up all the holes so why not just trim it to fit a 3rd gen?

If you ask ACC when you order they can leave it long and wide by a good margin. That way you can trim it to fit. I would be surprised if you can’t get it to fit nicely ordering it with the extra material.

I don’t remember Toyota ever saying it was an Off Roading or Overlanding truck, but after some modifications they could be called that. The “OR” and “TRD” stand for “Operationally Restricted” and “To Restrained Driving”. They aren’t Jeeps when stock.

But I do like the vinyl floor idea, if it could be done well and with some sound deadening that would be great.

I beg to differ. I’ve taken my stock sport into some very challenging situations and she handled just fine. Everything from snow wheeling to 300+ yard mud bogs, sandy wash beds to rocky outcrops. I’ve dragged frame rails and bumpers and this little truck just keeps going. Not sure what you mean by operationally restricted and too restrained driving.

It’s delicate off road. Didn’t say you couldn’t do it, it’s just that you have to be careful. Also, a single woodrat or bunny can take it down with just one bite. All of us who have owned pre-2000 models of Toyota trucks can confirm that Tacomas are delicate. I really like mine and use it off road a lot too, but I also carry a lot more water in the backcountry than I used to in case I get stranded, and can’t really do much to fix it anymore if something happens to the ignition and fuel system, wiring, etc.

I also hardened mine with armor and all that stuff, but it’s still not a good ‘ol solid axle SR5 which had vinyl flooring

Not sure what you mean by delicate…I beat on my truck. She’s still going strong. The end links are creaking but no big deal. Out here we have pack rats and they can take ANYTHING down with just one chomp so what’s your point? I feel like you’re just a Jeep guy that likes to bash on tacos.

    I totally agree.
I still wish they had offered roll-down windows, manual transfer case and vinyl floors from the factory on 3rd gens. Some of us still want old school-ish rigs.

Yeah, I so regret selling our ‘85, that was the best off-road truck we ever had. I could fix anything on it also.

I went the carpet/sound deadening delete route and it's not too bad. Wires are wrapped in conduit tape and the ducts are covered with rubber mats. It's nice being able to just sweep out/blow out dust and trash after trips now.
