A chinese diesel heater is a game changer for tents or toppers. Using one in a summer tent kept us about mid 70s inside compared to 40F outside. In my topper i could keep the temps at 80 if i wanted. Carrying an extra jug of diesel isnt awesome, but keeping incredibly warm is awesome

Haven't actually thought about it. I may look into those. I won't be towing a lot, just a normal sized work trailer.

Good afternoon, Gang. I wasn't expecting such a grey, soggy day today but it's beyond my control, all I can do is just accept it. 4 more hours then I can escape from my cube!

Which heater did you get? There are lots of Chinese options on Amazon.

Also, did you put it in a pelican case?

where inside the truck did you mount yours, and what did you do to protect the bed of the truck?
Also, did you go with one of the all in one units where the fuel tank is housed with the heater, or separately (is there an advantage to one over the other when putting it in a truck?)

I’m hoping to install one towards the front corner of the bed/behind the passenger back cab (I have a project M on my taco) and as I don’t want to burn my truck down I want to make sure it’s safe and properly heat shielded.

Lastly, what are you using to run it? I currently have a rockpals 500/520 (faux-jackery) but I don’t think it’s going to be able to handle the initial current draw needed to start the heater (I contacted the company last week to ask what the max current the unit can handle is, but haven’t heard back yet)

Mine is a 5kw mAXpeedingrods from Amazon - the direct link doens't work any longer though. I paid about $140 for it two years ago. And I put mine in a Harbor Frieght box - using this tank installed inside it

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X7WV2FL?ie=UTF8

my only issue is - I simply am unable to tap a fuel tank without it leaking and I have no idea why. The outcome of my lack of skill is this: I can't fill the tank 100% full - i fill it to about 1/2" below full. And using my ecoflow 600 (576w/hr) I can run it for about 10-12 hours.

I'm looking for a couple pics, but the FB page I started, where I posted pics, is gone and I don't know why. And i guess I never posted pics of it here. When I get out to the storage I'll dig it out and snap a couple for you.

I mount mine beside my truck on one of those steps that hooks over the tire and run the hose up through my topper-lift weekender tent door. I don't protect the bed at all. Leaving it outside and in the case keeps it as rain proof as I need, and keeps the exhaust away from anything it could harm. The new place for the heater will be atop the roof rack, plumbed in through the canopy's sliding window (with the topper lifted). I have the ecoflow river 600, 576watt/hr - and after the heater gets going it draws fairly low - though I don't remember the exact draw.

Thanks so much for the response! since I’m planning on mounting mine permanently I’m trying to figure out works best for drilling through the bed.

Also good to know on the ecoflow; I’ve been looking at upgrading from my rockpals to the river pro, so I’m glad to know it’ll cover the start up/shut down draws! (I want to say the initial draw to start a 2-5k heater is about 10 amps?)

Thanks - I keep mine portable because of my mindset...and experience. A couple years ago my city lost power in freezing temps. I used my heater to keep my garage warm, to keep water pipes from bursting. This freed up my generator overnights to run a heater where I had to sleep. Best of luck!
