Not really sure if this thread is for humor or increasing knowledge.

The blue wire should have been a give away. That is some crazy routing across the front of the engine

It would get too cluttered with BS, some folks perhaps won’t be able to decipher the truth from the BS. I didn’t create it but genuinely didn’t want to thread Jack with the wrong intentions.

Plenty of threads on here to have fun in here for sure already. I just didn't want to shit on the OP who appeared to create the thread for his own knowledge and help others. I was just trying to clarify for my own understanding.

Only if it cracks or leaks, it's just a hollow can pretty much just like a muffler on the exhaust.

Exactly. Us oldsters called it a vacuum accumulator tank. It reduces the pulsations from the engine allowing a steady vacuum in the system.

So like using a coffee can sealed up and tapped with vacuum lines to keep the vacuum operated wipers going on a '56 Chevy? (and other marquees/years)

Sort of, those were vacuum storage tanks. Their purpose was to store vacuum so things that were vacuum operated could continue to funtion during periods of low engine vacuum. The same vacuum storage systems are still used to this day but they are no longer coffee cans, they are typically molded into existing plastic parts.

Yeah, but the coffee can was a 'mod'. We just didn't call it that. :D

Oh, well some vehicles did use actual coffee cans for vacuum storage tanks from the factory back in the day so I thought that's what you were referring to.
I may actually have one or 2 of those laying around here yet somewhere.

Ok here's one. Not really a part itself I guess, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas. Passenger side, above the oil pan on the 1GR-FE. The way the block was cast it looks like it was intended to be machined and have something bolt in there. Any ideas what that might be used for?
