I can only speak to the AT, but the 2020 taco was painful to drive, empty, and ridiculous to tow anything. The word I use most to describe the stock truck (running premium fuel always), is PATHETIC. This speaks to the power and horrible shifting. Shifting all the time, cannot hold highway speeds, slight incline and have to increase pedal more and more without response, then truck downshifts 2 gears and way overshoots target speed, and god forbid the incline lasts more than a quarter mile; because you will repeat this over and over.

Towing an empty covered trailer, was impossible to maintain 75 without constant shifting, tried 65 and same deal; had to lock it in 4th to prevent shifting and at 70 I recall the tach sat at about 5,400 for the whole 100mi trip.

I did not invest in a NA tune.

I installed SC and Stryker, plus tonnau cover, and bigger radiator, plus variable speed fan and mechanical fan delete at all at once; The truck is now actually a pleasure to drive. For me this is nothing crazy or wild, but the truck is now how a truck should be.

 

Alrighty, I need some help here guys. My SC install is still having issues 6 months after install by RSG Offroad here in Denver. Constant exhaust leak codes ever since the install. RSG has tried 6 or 7 times to fix the exhaust leaks. They pushed me towards the URD y-pipe only to now tell me it has leaks in it. So they welded it, now we're seeing an O2 sensor code. Every time I have taken my truck to RSG, they don't check their work. Half the things I just paid for, simply don't work at all. But they tell me with a smile on their face that everything is working fine.

Most recently, I had them do the CMC, to be rid of minor front wheel well rubbing noises once and for all. While they were test driving the truck to "redo" the alignment a second time, the truck went into power limp mode, having the new O2 sensor code being thrown.

I have a boost gauge and wide band plugged into the bung that comes in the URD Y-pipe.

What causes the O2 sensor codes? What causes the power limp mode? What other shop in Denver can work on a fully decked out Taco?

 

Honestly I would find a European car shop that is used to working on VW’s and Audi’s. They will have the proper equipment to check for leaks. They should have an evap leak detector or a “smoke machine”. You can put one into the tailpipe and start looking for leaks to see if you have an exhaust leak before the o2 sensors. If it checks out fine then go to the intake and start checking up top for leaks. You most likely have an air leak somewhere between the maf and the o2 sensors.

This is interesting Rey! When I first installed my Maggi SC I also got engine codes showing large leak and put me into limp mode when I smashed the skinny. I don't know if it's the same since I'm not familiar with your setup, but once I cleared my restrictive snorkel and found a leaking hose it fixed my issues. That fixed the limp mode. Not sure about your O2 sensor.

 

going to 7000rpm would it reach 400whp? these are the numbers everybody was hoping to get from the supercharger!

 

We'll get to 400. It is showing no signs of letting up based with what we're observing via data acquisition. I'm not sure I'd get there with a totally stock truck and 7K. I think with some improvements on the exhaust side of the motor we could definitely get there.

..and that's where we're going next.

Before we dive in and tackle the 84mm pulley, we're going to explore a little with the 87 so we can help inform folks on what works and what doesn't. We've already played around a little (unscientific) to see where things are choked up. We can confidently state there is ZERO restriction on the induction side at this power level. Last session, we wanted to do a quick and "dirty" test to evaluate how much the induction side is holding things back. We didn't find ANY improvement over the OE airbox/filter.

The exhaust shows some promise. And we'll be working through trying a few things in this area to maximize the potential of the 87mm while keeping things tame on the ears. I hate loud stuff anymore.. We'll be sure to keep everyone posted of that development. We've got boxes of URD goodies to try along with a few others.

Makes getting the maggie kit 100% worth it now. What a difference. Once more if anyone is in the central Florida area, I'll gladly take you for a spin!

The throttle body will be the next intake restriction.

 

It’s a very easy way to correlate the dyno numbers with actual performance. Highly recommend it.

 

We'll be testing that, but I'm not sure we're there yet. I've got to get my MAP sensors plumbed, but I'm planning on logging the pressure differential across the entire intake tract including pressure drop across the heat exchanger core.

We'll see what turns up and where to go.

 

Did you guys end up doing a comparison to the Magnuson factory tune?

 

It's the smallest point in the entire intake tract leading to the rotors. As we spin things faster, it's bound to be the bottleneck, and any restriction on the intake side of the TVS pump is best avoided. Your logging of the vacuum at various points fore and aft will tell the tale.

I believe @hiPSI might know a "pump guy" that could assist in the calculation here.

If possible, give me the delta p at various known loads. Will make calculations much more accurate. It's a simple orifice calculation but different loading conditions will allow you to be much more accurate when predicting future outcomes of changing orifice size.
Oh, temps matter too.
