Just curious- why are you recommending sports over the pros?

I think that was an error and intended to say "Pro". Someone corrected it in the previous page (I actually went and looked for that part of the thread).

So it looks like the SS3 Pro is what I'm going with before winter hits. Lacking the confidence that I have it properly aimed is going to eat at me.

I don’t think crash made a typo. I do realize Colton did his own “FIFY” reply.

This response to TacoFergie sets the stage. The discussion was drifting towards running fog lights on dry roads in good weather. That’s where sports would be a better choice than pros due to the cutoff. Hence the note that sports don’t melt snow.

There isn’t a clear choice in the DD lineup for someone who wants to run fog lights all the time, doesn’t want to spend on MAX, and wants to melt snow. Perhaps that’s where the 4 banger makes the most sense.

My plan for the Tundra, since the bumper will have double cutouts, is to have both white and selective yellow in fog patterns. I might go pros on the yellow since I’d never use them except in need but I suspect I’ll do double MAX when the time comes just because they have more output and a warmer lens.

I really do like the white MAX at night on dry roads when traffic isn’t heavy.

The best benefit I find about the sports is they aren't as distracting to myself and others on the road. For me they are plenty bright and do the job well. They will cake up during heavy snow fall in colder temps but that is maybe a day or two in winters here so it's worth the hassle to not encroach on other drivers.

The Sport model has a better-defined horizontal beam pattern and cutoff than the Pro. I had the Pros before going to the Max and they were awesome, but the taller pattern with a less well-defined cutoff tended to bother oncoming drivers more.

As others mentioned the Sports have superior cut offs with less light spill above the cut off line (aka glare). If you need to operate in winter snow conditions I'd recommend the Max for higher output and they run hot enough to melt snow, unlike the Sports. For poor weather use (the only time you should run fogs), selective yellow is superior. When the Pros first launched, they were one of the only fog products that could reliably melt snow and had the highest output intensity for fogs, however the Max has significantly improved upon that while also reducing light spill/glare and increasing output intensity as well as running even hotter to clear the worst snow. Hence I'd recommend either the Sport or the Max in the fog pod format. I do have the Elites to review, they will have sharper cut off lines than the DD TIR optics, but also will not run hot enough to melt snow.

Definitely wasn't an error, Sport or Max. Someone else shared their counter opinion.

Looks like you got a good reply already, but I can second that the BAMF brackets are pretty solid.
Definitely misread the quote... I still like the pros for an all-arounder, but they definitely have that softer upward limiter.
    That would be me :spy:
That's all I am to you now huh...? "Someone else" :p

Do you have the white or yellow set? Just installed a yellow set and curious to see what kind of numbers you get and how they compare to the sport.

They are not the first to have the fog and high beam integrated into one light. Would be interesting to test and see how they compare. One of the design issues though is you want high beams mounted up high, and fogs down low, so putting a high beam at the bottom of your fog location is certainly not optimal for a distance light.

Interesting. Not sure I'd want a fog and high beam pattern at the same time though.

It’s technically 2 separate lights in 1. You have the low(fog) beam and the high beam with a 3 way switch.

Maybe not on something like a tacoma but if you had a low car with poor mounting options and could only get one set of lights in the grill it might be an okay compromise.
