I’d say depends on the highway for sure, but I absolutely can and do use CC much of the time around here. I also am mostly on Bush and 30 so maybe that helps.

Use this fix to "shift" your expectations. The fix is a 3-step process.
    1. Turn on Sirius XM
    2. Turn up the volume
    3. Don't look at tachometer
Just drive! Seriously - I once had a loaner Honda HRV with an early-generation CVT. The constant shifting and inability to control engine revs with the throttle was maddening, until I forgot about it and gave it the good beating it deserved and was clearly asking for. I'm not saying to beat your Taco, but let it be and do its thing. It's still going to run for 200K+.

The only problem with your fix, creative as it is, is the fact many of us will then focus on the crappy audio quality of SiriusXM; true, the shifting of the transmission will no longer be front and center, but the aggravation may be just the same. :D

I'd have to disagree, maybe in the four cylinder thats underpowered for this size of truck, but not the six. My auto is fine with it. In fact its the best toyota 4wd pickup to date i've owned since 1978.

Texas is great to drive in providing you stay out of rush hour in the DFW, Houston, Austin and San Antonio regions.

That does not really sound like the Texas I’ve been in for 27 years. Maybe parts of it, but not most and like everywhere, traffic just sucks.

    A few.
When setting the cruise control if u hold the button in for more than 3 seconds it turns off the radar cruise control feature and switches to normal cruise control which will help eliminate some of the excess shiting on the highway.

I was just thinking about a discussion on a different thread; do the 4-Cylinder versions of the Tacoma have the "ECT PWR" button on the dash? If so, does enabling it help with the gear hunting?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading in the Owner's Manual the Radar is turned off after a press and hold of only 1.5 seconds. Splitting hairs I know, but my brain works that way.

It does. Seems to raise the shift points a couple hundred rpm. I’ve only tried it briefly with cruise and thought it made things worse. First grade I hit, a steady even one at that, it jumped to fourth and immediately back to fifth a couple times. Without cruise it pulls the same grade in sixth.
As much as the 2.7 is underpowered, I’m impressed at how well it will push this brick 70 mph at less than 2000 rpm. With all the efforts to develop tunes and whatnot a manual trans conversion is what these things need. The 2.7 has adequate power, it’s the delivery method that sucks

My will power to go off on a rant is slipping here. Former F150 owner. Totally agree. Bigger, heavier, more powerful engine. Better FE by about 6 m/g. Now, if Ford would just fix the cam phasor issue.

That's what I do for my 6 banger. helps with the constant shifting and lugging of the engine. damned thing wants to be in 6 at 45 mph

Ain't that the damned truth. I think I'd like to go back to the 4 speed AT.

My 2020 performs excellent. If it ever gives me a problem with hunting I shift over to S and limit the highest gear to one that doesn't cause constant shifting. Sometimes slowing down helps with shifting, sometimes not. It's programmed for fuel economy and it delivers somewhat if you let it. (never got 28 mpg average in any other pickup) If you expect it to perform like a Cummins you'll be disappointed.

I will say that the shifting improved SOMEWHAT after 3000 miles of driving.
